A CITY ON THE CUSP: THE COMEBACK CHAPTER

Forget the LA of palm tree postcards and sepia-filtered sunsets. Spring/Summer 2025 is about a city that remembers its roots while unashamedly chasing tomorrow. Its streets are resilient, glamorous in their shadows, and now, more reasons than ever to come calling. With new hotel openings in Hollywood and Los Feliz, matcha lattes brewed in Brentwood with Tokyo precision, and the grand reveal of the NHM Commons at Exposition Park, LA is writing a new chapter – and she’s penning it in gold.

Whisky Hotel (Hollywood): Cue the swagger. Perched on Hollywood Boulevard, the Whisky Hotel is a cinematic cocktail of 1960s rebellion and rooftop revelry. It’s adults-only (sorry, rugrats), offers a welcome shot of whisky on check-in, and serves up a side of old-school LA cool with every stay. A 132-room salute to the golden age of glam, it’s part Mad Men, part moonlight.
AC Hotel Pasadena (Pasadena): April 1st wasn’t fooling anyone when this 194-room stunner opened its doors. Nestled in Pasadena’s Playhouse Village, it marries European elegance with SoCal charm. Rooftop lounging, sun-drenched design, and proximity to Colorado Boulevard make it a cultural compass for the modern traveller.
The Sandbourne Santa Monica (Santa Monica): Where once Le Merigot stood, now rises The Sandbourne – 175 rooms of coastal calm, Mediterranean bites, and even a dog park. Part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, it boasts a full-service spa, set to open later this year, and a restaurant, Marelle, that has locals whispering sweet nothings about the octopus carpaccio.
Sonesta LAX (LAX/Beach Cities): Fresh from a $42 million nip and tuck, Sonesta LAX is no longer just a layover choice. With sleek redesigns, 14,000 sq ft of event space, and dining options that ditch the airport food stigma, it’s where business meets beachside breezy.

Mama Shelter DTLA (Late 2026): Downtown’s Fashion District gets a playful new addition with 140 rooms, two restaurants, and serious rooftop flair.
North Hollywood Hotel (2026): A sleek seven-storey, 125-room hideaway near the Metro Rail.
Aman Beverly Hills (2027): Ultra-luxe, ultra-private. Only 42 rooms, but all styles. The 17.5-acre One Beverly Hills project is Aman’s new kingdom.
Venice Place (2027): 78 boutique rooms and long-stay units rise amid the creative bustle of Abbot Kinney Boulevard.
