World-first Australian climate change program, WorkForClimate, has launched this week giving professionals and corporations the resources to tackle the climate crisis in their day-to-day work lives.
Founded by Bryan J Rollins, formerly a General Manager at Atlassian, WorkForClimate is focused on empowering individual professionals to create change within the corporate sector.
The program is incubated by The Sunrise Project, an Australian-founded, not-for-profit organisation focused on driving the global transition from fossil fuels to clean energy.
Lucy Piper, former Global Head of Creative at Intrepid Group, has been appointed to lead the initiative as Director for WorkForClimate.
“We were inspired by the global school strikes movement and asked ourselves, how can older generations take action? This crisis shouldn’t all fall onto Gen Z,” says Lucy Piper, WorkForClimate Director.
“Our focus is making climate action accessible to help guide professionals on their journey to make significant change. In our experience, individual employees have the power to drive ambitious initiatives and inspire others to make their corporation a better one,” added Piper.
The start-up’s mission is to accelerate the corporate transition away from fossil fuels by guiding businesses and employees to commit to climate goals across four categories – energy, emissions, money and lobbying, that will ultimately have a positive impact on the planet and their business.
“With big businesses like Telstra, Coles and Woolworths taking the steps to switch to 100% renewable energy, and businesses switching their default superannuation to ethical super funds that don’t invest in fossil fuels, we see this as just the beginning of this corporate movement, as more businesses commit to being part of the solution to the climate crisis,” added Piper.
WorkForClimate is focused on initiatives that have the most significant impact on corporate decarbonisation.
Resources for professionals include:
- Live, guided Cohort programs
- Comprehensive, step-by-step Playbooks
- An online Slack Community
“While this is often seen as a complex and polarising topic, it really shouldn’t be. Our aim is to simplify climate action for climate-concerned professionals at the beginning of this critical decade for the crisis,” said Piper.
The programs and resources are based on the methodologies of the most disruptive and innovative start-ups and are designed to harness the energy of individual employees, guiding them through every step of the process to make these big changes within their organisation, faster.
