If you fancy yourself as Sherlock Holmes, Inspector Morse, Miss Marple, or Columbo, then you have the credentials to sleuth Mary Valley Rattler’s Murder Mystery Express on Saturday 7 November.
This fun event offers a great chance to dress to the nines in 1920s glamour and glitter and experience the romance of the rails as passengers steam through Mary Valley with a murderer on board.
Professional onboard entertainment is proudly provided by the talented Perseverance Street Theatre Company.
The Murder Mystery Express service will depart historic Gympie Station on board the 1920s steam engine, Spirit of the Mary Valley, at the “witching hour” of 5.30pm, as dusk settles across the region.
As the Spirit of the Mary Valley winds its way back through the beautiful Mary Valley towards Amamoor, passengers can plot and plan their way with fellow travellers to solve the murder. Novelty money will be available for bribery and corruption.
The aim is to uncover the murderer as the train returns to Gympie Station, where the Murder Mystery will be solved, the culprit will be unmasked, and the best-dressed winner will be announced.
This evocative trip back in time is available from $129 per person with dinner served onboard to enjoy throughout your journey. Main meals include a choice of Chilled Fresh Taco Salad Bowl (GF) or Chilled Sundried Tomato, Spinach, Olive, Parmesan & Pine Nut Pesto Pasta, plus a bottle of water. On board, a cheese platter is served, and a drinks cart will operate, with wines, beers and soft drinks available for purchase.

“The romance of the rails brings back all those memories of glamour and glitz, and we are looking forward to people dressing up, having fun and getting into the spirit of the occasion,” she said.
“There aren’t too many opportunities for people to dress up and get into character, and with the event being held on a Saturday, we are hoping that visitors from outside the region will make a weekend of it and experience the magic of the Gympie region while they Stay- Play and Discover.”
