Commentary

Velocity Frequent Flyer CEO, Andrew Cleary said Velocity is committed to giving members more ways to progress towards Status without relying on flying alone.

“Most people think they have to spend a lot of time on planes to earn airline Status, but there are plenty of ways Velocity members can give their balance a boost on the ground,” said Mr Cleary.

“Virgin Money’s High Flyer credit card offer is a great example. Eligible new cardholders can earn up to 100 Status Credits when they meet the offer requirements. It’s a market-leading offer and one of the biggest Status Credit offers Velocity has ever made available through a credit card, giving members a real head start towards their next tier.

“Even the weekly grocery shop can make a difference. Members who link their Flybuys and Velocity accounts can earn up to 120 Status Credits just from purchases they’re already making at retailers like Coles.

“Then there’s Family Pooling. Rather than everyone in the household having a few Status Credits sitting in separate accounts, eligible family members can direct the Status Credits they earn to one person. It’s a simple way for families to work towards one member’s Status together, and Velocity was the first Australian airline loyalty program to offer it.

“Add in Velocity’s lower Status Credit thresholds, and those extra Status Credits can make a real difference. Depending on the tier they reach, members could be enjoying benefits like lounge access, extra baggage and priority boarding sooner than they think,” he said.
