The Colca Valley in Arequipa will become the meeting point for an international group of experienced travel professionals as REMOTE Expedition Peru arrives in the destination at the end of October. From October 27–30, 27 Travel Designers from 11 countries will meet with 26 Peruvian Exhibitors — 21 independent lodges, boats and trains and 5 DMCs (Destination Management Companies) — for three days of business meetings, immersive experiences and conversations about responsible tourism in the country.
REMOTE Expedition will take place in Peru in partnership with Peru’s Commission for the Promotion of Export and Tourism (PROMPERÚ), a key partner whose promotional strategy aims to attract high-impact events and strengthen the country’s position as a destination for international meetings. Peru was chosen to host the event for its extraordinary geographic, cultural and gastronomic diversity, as well as its appeal for experiential and high-end travel in Latin America.
The first edition of REMOTE Expedition, launched in 2026 to celebrate 10 years of REMOTE Latin America, brings together Travel Designers from Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Hong Kong, Luxembourg, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States, alongside Peruvian tourism businesses from different regions and offering small-scale, tailor-made travel experiences. Unlike a traditional trade show, REMOTE Expedition brings together a carefully selected group of travel industry leaders to focus on one country at a time. This first edition puts Peru in the spotlight.
From October 23–27, before gathering in the Colca Valley, the invited Travel Designers will experience some of Peru’s lesser-known destinations on one of five Expedition Pre-Trips, each designed by a Local Expert partner: Amazonas Explorer, Andean, Coltur Peru, Explorandes and Tropic Travel. The different journeys will introduce participants to diverse landscapes, communities and experiences before bringing the group together in Colca.
“We want the REMOTE Expedition to be about more than connecting buyers and suppliers. By bringing together a carefully selected group of leaders who believe in the value of small-scale, responsible tourism, we are creating a space where business opportunities and bigger conversations can happen side by side. Peru has so much to offer beyond its best-known destinations, and we want to help build the connections that can contribute to a stronger, more diversified tourism economy,” says Roberto Bitelman, Founder and Executive Director of REMOTE Latin America.
PROMPERÚ Executive President Teresa Mera highlighted: “Hosting the first edition of REMOTE Expedition is an opportunity to strengthen Peru’s presence in the high-end travel segment, with authentic experiences that connect travelers with our natural and cultural diversity. At PROMPERÚ, we aim for this gathering to foster business partnerships for our specialized tourism offering and contribute to the development of sustainable tourism that benefits local communities.”
The 3-day program in the Colca Valley combines scheduled one-on-one business meetings with immersive outdoor, cultural and wellness experiences, social gatherings and REMOTE Circles — facilitated evening conversations. Led by Peruvian-born strategic designer and facilitator Da Sánchez Suárez and inspired by Andean concepts of community and reciprocity, the Circles will invite participants to share perspectives on responsible growth, positive impact and long-term relationships with destinations, and to consider what kind of tourism they want to help build in Peru. The scenic Colca Lodge will serve as the event’s home base.
“Peru has everything we look for at REMOTE: extraordinary landscapes, independent businesses, strong local knowledge and cultural depth and diversity that cannot be reduced to a single destination or itinerary. The opportunity now is to connect this richness with the right international Travel Designers and create business opportunities that benefits more places and more people,” says Marcelo Pontes, Partner and Commercial Director of REMOTE Latin America.
Sustainability is also integrated into the Expedition as part of REMOTE Latin America’s approach to hosting responsible events. The organization is working directly with the local host, Colca Lodge to reduce resource use, waste and single-use items throughout the event. Activities have also been designed to minimize environmental impacts, bring benefits to local communities and showcase the diversity of the Colca Valley.
REMOTE Expedition is also measuring its calculable event-related emissions for environmental and social compensation. The initiative is being developed in partnership with ECOAN – Asociación Ecosistemas Andinos and will ultimately support the restoration of high-Andean forests in the Vilcanota Mountain Range, in Cusco, together with the community of Abra Málaga.
