Arctic Adventures is illuminating one of Iceland’s most unusual attractions in pink this October in support of Bleika slaufan, the Icelandic Cancer Society’s annual Pink Ribbon campaign. Inside Langjökull, Iceland’s second-largest glacier, pink LED lights give the Into the Glacier ice tunnel a new look to raise awareness of cancers affecting women. The energy-efficient lighting creates the effect without applying paint, dyes, or chemicals to the glacier ice.

The initiative combines awareness with fundraising. Throughout October, 500 ISK from every Into the Glacier ticket purchased will go directly to Bleika slaufan, regardless of when the visit takes place. The campaign also extends online, with the Into the Glacier website adopting a pink theme for the month.

A Glacier Turns Pink for a Cause

Usually illuminated in shades of blue, the man-made ice tunnel inside Langjökull glacier takes on a different appearance each October. Pink lighting transforms the look of its frozen walls and passages without changing the ice itself, creating a visual reminder of the Pink Ribbon campaign.

For Arctic Adventures, the initiative has become an annual tradition. The company has supported Bleika slaufan for several years, bringing employees and visitors together around a cause that affects families and communities across Iceland.

“Cancer touches almost everyone in some way, whether it’s a mother, a sister, a friend, or a colleague. Our team is no different. We’ve supported Bleika slaufan for the last few years, and it’s become something we really look forward to doing together every October,” says Sandra Kristin Alexandersdottir, Marketing Specialist and Pink Ribbon Campaign Coordinator at Arctic Adventures.

“Seeing the blue glacier ice glow pink is a pretty special sight, and it gets people talking. For us, it’s a meaningful way to support a cause that matters to so many people here at home.”

Every Ticket Makes a Contribution

Travelers can support the campaign by purchasing an Into the Glacier ticket during October, with 500 ISK from each sale going directly to Bleika slaufan.

The Into the Glacier experience takes visitors deep inside Langjökull through a network of engineered tunnels carved into the ice. Guests can walk through the glacier, see layers of ice formed over many years, and learn about the glacier’s history and formation.

During October, the pink lighting adds a new visual element to the experience while drawing attention to the importance of cancer awareness and support.

“For travelers, we love that something as simple as purchasing a ticket in October makes a real contribution. For our team, the campaign is something we do together, and we hope it reminds everyone that we look out for each other,” says Sandra.

Supporting Iceland’s Pink Ribbon Campaign

Organized by the Icelandic Cancer Society (Krabbameinsfélag Íslands), Bleika slaufan takes place every October to raise awareness and funds for the fight against cancers affecting women.

The 2026 campaign carries the message “Sjáðu þig” (“See Yourself”), encouraging women to pay attention to changes in their bodies and seek medical advice when something feels unusual.

Through its annual participation, Arctic Adventures hopes to help spread that message beyond the glacier and encourage conversations among employees, travelers, and the wider Icelandic community.

“We hope the pink light is a small reminder to look after yourself and the people around you. Small actions add up,” Sandra adds.

The pink illumination will remain in place throughout October. Every Into the Glacier ticket purchased during the month will contribute 500 ISK to Bleika slaufan, even when the visit is scheduled for a later date.
