Minor Hotels, a global hospitality group, has appointed Magdalena Martorell as General Manager of Avani+ Fares Maldives Resort. Martorell transfers from Anantara Uluwatu Bali Resort in Indonesia, where she has served as General Manager since February 2025. Her appointment brings an experienced leader from within the group to Avani+ Fares, combining a strong commercial background with expertise in resort operations, guest experience and team development.

With an international career spanning Spain, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and China, Martorell brings more than a decade of hospitality leadership experience in Asia. At Anantara Uluwatu, she led the resort’s operations and strategic direction, developing guest experiences across wellness, culture, dining and destination discovery. During her tenure, the resort ranked eighth among resorts in Indonesia in the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards 2025.

Before joining Minor Hotels, Martorell spent nearly four years as General Manager of Meliá Phuket Mai Khao in Thailand, leading its pre-opening and launch in November 2021 before overseeing the resort’s operations. Alongside strengthening commercial performance, she developed its wellness offering through dedicated spaces and rituals, wellness villa concepts and retreats with visiting practitioners.

Her earlier career includes General Manager roles at Meliá Shanghai Parkside in China and SOL by Meliá Phu Quoc in Vietnam, where she led pre-opening assignments. She also served as Hotel Manager at Meliá Bali, including a year as Acting General Manager, following hotel leadership positions in Spain.

At Avani+ Fares, Martorell plans to build on the resort’s existing guest experiences through collaborations with artists, wellness and fitness specialists and sports professionals. Her approach will combine a focus on service culture and team development with experiences that celebrate the Maldives’ natural environment.

“I am excited to join Avani+ Fares and build on the strong foundation already in place. My focus is to continue bringing life and personality to the resort through meaningful collaborations, creating experiences that guests can genuinely connect with. From padel and football camps to fitness, wellness and marine life experiences, I see a great opportunity to make the island a place of discovery, energy and connection, while always celebrating the extraordinary natural environment of the Maldives,” said Magdalena Martorell, General Manager of Avani+ Fares Maldives Resort.

Martorell studied Hotel Management at E.S.T.B., University of Tourism in Mallorca, Spain, and holds a Certificate in Executive Leadership from Cornell University. Her executive development also includes hotel real estate and investment studies at Cornell.
