Singapore has never lacked impressive hotels.
Towers overlook Marina Bay, historic grand dames, glamorous newcomers, and enough rooftop swimming pools to keep social media occupied until Christmas.
Then there is Capella Singapore.
For our inaugural GTM Hotel of the Week, we’re leaving the skyscrapers behind and heading to Sentosa Island, where 30 acres of landscaped grounds, colonial heritage and contemporary architecture create something rather unusual for Singapore: a luxury resort that feels removed from the city without requiring an expedition to reach it.
Capella describes the property as just over 10 minutes from Singapore’s central area. Yet once inside its tropical grounds, downtown Singapore can feel considerably further away.
That combination makes Capella Singapore an intriguing proposition for travel advisors and their clients, particularly those who want Singapore to be part of the holiday rather than merely somewhere to change aircraft.
A different side of Singapore
Capella Singapore is located at 1 The Knolls, Sentosa Island, surrounded by approximately 30 acres of landscaped grounds.
At its heart are two restored Tanah Merah colonial bungalows dating from the 1880s, around which the modern resort was developed.
Foster + Partners designed the contemporary hotel to sit harmoniously alongside the traditional architecture and surrounding landscape rather than overwhelm it.
The result is distinctly different from the vertical luxury that characterises much of Singapore’s hotel landscape.
There are gardens. There are mature trees. There is room to breathe.
In Singapore, space is something of a luxury in itself.
113 rooms, but some are considerably more than rooms
Capella Singapore currently has 113 rooms, suites, villas and manors spread throughout its 30-acre estate.
The accommodation ranges from spacious guestrooms and suites to private villas and substantial manors.
For travel advisors, the 38 villas are particularly interesting.
Each features an outdoor terrace and private plunge pool, with either one or two bedrooms and separate living space.
That creates a very different proposition from the conventional Singapore city-hotel stay.
A couple celebrating an anniversary may appreciate the privacy. Families can consider larger accommodation configurations. High-end leisure travellers can spend several days enjoying the resort rather than treating their hotel as merely a place to sleep between sightseeing and shopping expeditions.
And clients combining Singapore with a longer Asian itinerary may find that a few resort days provide an excellent counterpoint to the city’s considerable energy.
The Living Room and some thoughtful extras
Luxury hotels increasingly compete on experiences rather than simply thread counts, and Capella has developed a considerable list of guest benefits.
Guests have access to The Living Room, where refreshments and afternoon tea are available.
Capella Culturists also specialise in creating personalised experiences and can assist guests with everything from culinary activities to cultural discoveries.
Other current guest services include complimentary Wi-Fi, access to the 24-hour fitness centre and shuttle transport to VivoCity and Universal Studios Singapore at Resorts World Sentosa.
Capella’s published hotel information also lists complimentary pressing for up to five garments per stay.
None of these inclusions alone determines whether a hotel is exceptional.
Collectively, however, they matter most when a travel advisor compares similarly positioned luxury properties.
Dining with an important temporary change
This is one area where travellers and advisors need current information.
Capella Singapore’s main website presently advises that the Fiamma restaurant space is temporarily closed for an extensive upgrade programme, with breakfast being served in The Gallery Room during the works.
The hotel says Chef’s Table, Cassia, Bob’s Bar and Auriga Spa remain open during the renovation.
Capella’s other dining pages continue to promote Fiamma’s Italian concept and future dining experiences, including handmade pasta, wood-fired pizza and Sunday Champagne Brunch. Because the hotel’s webpages currently contain differing information, GTM recommends checking directly with Capella Singapore for Fiamma’s reopening status before travelling.
Meanwhile, Cassia offers the property’s modern Cantonese dining experience.
Capella also currently lists The Pineapple Room for cocktails and bar snacks and Bob’s Bar for more relaxed drinks and sunset views.
The lesson for travel advisors is simple: when a client books a luxury resort partly for its restaurants, check what will actually be operating during the stay.
A beautiful menu isn’t terribly useful when the restaurant around it is being renovated.
Auriga Spa adds a new wellbeing chapter
Capella Singapore’s Auriga Spa is an important component of the resort experience.
Capella says Auriga was the first spa in Singapore to receive Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star status and has maintained Five-Star recognition for more than a decade.
Its facilities include nine treatment suites, four designed for couples, alongside separate male and female spa areas with vitality pools, herbal steam rooms, ice fountains, and experiential showers.
And there is now a particularly timely development.
On 22 September 2026, Capella Singapore announced that GROUND Wellbeing had joined Auriga Spa, marking what Capella describes as the Irish wellness brand’s debut in Asia.
The partnership introduces treatments including the Biome Facial, Sleep Repair Ritual and Tóg Go Bog É, translated as “Take It Softly”, incorporating massage, breathwork, essential oils and other wellbeing techniques.
For wellness-focused travellers, this gives advisors another current reason to consider Capella as a destination resort rather than simply accommodation.
However, there is one caveat worth knowing.
While Auriga Spa remains open during the Fiamma works, Capella currently warns guests that noise disturbances may be possible during spa treatments because of the restaurant upgrade.
That’s exactly the sort of small but important detail worth knowing before promising a client several hours of uninterrupted tranquillity.
Wellness beyond the treatment room
Capella’s wellness offering extends beyond conventional spa treatments.
Its current Wellness Getaway, available for qualifying stays through 31 December 2026, includes activities such as yoga or mat Pilates, a sound-bath session and massage treatments at Auriga Spa.
The package also provides access to spa facilities and purification water experiences, including steam rooms, experience showers, vitality pools and an ice fountain.
A 24-hour fitness centre is available for those energetic souls who somehow return from holiday fitter than when they left.
The rest of us can admire their discipline from a safe distance.
The awards cabinet is getting crowded
Luxury hotels love awards, but they should always be reported with their awarding organisations and dates attached.
Capella Singapore currently lists a substantial collection.
Forbes Travel Guide’s 2026 Star Awards recognise Capella Singapore as both a Five-Star Hotel and Five-Star Spa.
The hotel also holds One Michelin Key for 2025 and 2026, while Tatler Best 2026 named it Hotel of the Year.
Capella Singapore was ranked No.33 in The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2024.
At the brand level, Capella Hotels and Resorts says it was named No. 1 Best Hotel Brand in the World in Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards in 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026.
That last distinction applies to Capella Hotels and Resorts as a brand, rather than Capella Singapore individually, an important distinction when comparing awards.
Trophies aren’t a substitute for matching the right property to the right client, but this level of recognition provides useful context when advisors are recommending a premium resort.
The Sentosa question
One consideration shouldn’t be hidden beneath all those awards.
Capella Singapore is on Sentosa Island.
For some travellers, that’s precisely the point.
For others who want to step directly from their hotel into Orchard Road, Marina Bay, or Singapore’s central business district every morning, a central-city property may be more convenient.
This is where good travel advice matters.
Capella makes considerable sense for honeymooners, couples, luxury leisure travellers, families, wellness travellers and repeat visitors who already know Singapore and want to experience another side of the destination.
It could also work beautifully as the relaxing component of a longer itinerary: several energetic days exploring Singapore followed by time on Sentosa before flying home or continuing elsewhere in Asia.
For a business traveller facing consecutive CBD meetings, however, the calculation may be quite different.
A beautiful hotel is only the right hotel when it suits the traveller.
GTM TIP: Don’t merely sleep here
If clients are paying for a resort of this calibre, encourage them to spend some time actually enjoying it.
That sounds obvious, but travellers have a remarkable ability to reserve magnificent hotels and then leave at 7am, returning shortly before midnight.
Capella’s Culturists can help arrange personalised experiences, while the resort promotes activities including culinary and cocktail-making experiences.
Ask what’s available during the client’s particular stay.
A traveller who spends every waking hour elsewhere may be paying handsomely for facilities they never use.
Families have room to move
Sentosa itself adds another dimension.
Its attractions make Capella potentially interesting for families wanting access to Singapore’s leisure infrastructure while retaining an upscale resort base.
Capella currently provides complimentary shuttle services to VivoCity and Universal Studios Singapore at Resorts World Sentosa.
Its larger accommodation, villas and residences also provide alternatives to the conventional city room for families and multigenerational travellers.
The hotel says children aged up to 11 stay free when travelling with a full-paying adult, subject to its room and occupancy conditions.
Travel advisors should naturally confirm the precise bedding and occupancy arrangements for each family before booking.
What does Capella Singapore cost?
Capella operates firmly at the luxury end of Singapore’s accommodation market, and room rates can vary significantly by accommodation category, travel dates, demand, packages, and booking conditions.
Rather than publish a rate that could become obsolete almost as soon as this article appears, GTM recommends checking live pricing directly with Capella Singapore or through the advisor’s preferred distribution channel for the client’s actual dates.
More importantly, compare inclusions.
Capella currently promotes several packages and special offers. These can incorporate elements such as breakfast, resort experiences, dining benefits, wellness treatments and other privileges.
The hotel’s Wellness Getaway, for example, currently incorporates daily breakfast, wellness sessions, massage treatments for two, spa access and an SGD150 dining credit, subject to its terms and conditions.
Capella also currently advertises a Third Night on Us villa offer.
The cheapest headline room rate and the best overall value aren’t necessarily the same thing.
Travel advisors have known that for rather longer than online booking engines would care to admit.
Who should travel advisors consider Capella for?
Capella Singapore warrants consideration, particularly for luxury leisure travellers wanting a recognised resort experience; couples and honeymooners seeking privacy and a sense of occasion; families and multigenerational groups needing more substantial accommodation; and wellness travellers drawn to Auriga Spa.
It should also appeal to repeat Singapore visitors looking for something different from another CBD stay, and stopover travellers with enough time to make Singapore part of the holiday rather than merely a transit point.
Most of all, it suits clients who value space, tranquillity and resort surroundings without surrendering access to Singapore itself.

GTM Hotel of the Week
What makes Capella Singapore worthy of inaugurating GTM Hotel of the Week isn’t simply Five-Star recognition, private plunge pools or an impressive awards cabinet.
It offers travellers a different proposition.
Singapore is one of Asia’s great urban destinations, but Capella shows you can experience it without sleeping halfway up a skyscraper.
Here, colonial architecture meets contemporary design; tropical grounds replace the concrete canyon; villas come with private pools; and one of Asia’s busiest destinations suddenly discovers how to whisper.
Would every visitor to Singapore choose it?
Of course not, and nor should they.
The purpose of GTM Hotel of the Week isn’t to declare one property universally “the best”. It identifies hotels that travel advisors and travellers should know about, explains what distinguishes them and, importantly, determines who they suit.
For the right client, Capella Singapore offers something particularly attractive: Singapore within easy reach, Sentosa outside the door and enough resort luxury in between to make leaving surprisingly difficult.
For the first GTM Hotel of the Week, that’s a rather promising place to begin.
