Melco Resorts & Entertainment’s “Teaching Children Values” program held various workshops for local children and young people aged between 4 and 17. The workshops aimed to teach youth the value of monetary savings and help build smart money habits. By making financial education fun and easy to understand, the workshops also aimed to provide tools for parents to talk with their children about money at home. The four events saw close to 200 participants and 450 hours of participation. Attendees included children of Melco colleagues and Parent-Child groups from the local community, such as Associação de Pais e Professores da Escola de Santa Madalena and Teen Ching Integrated Youth Services.

The series involved the “Three Jar Money Saving Concept” workshop targeting a younger audience group, and “Financial Literacy Workshop for Young Generation”, and welcomed Mr. Dickson Tam – Director of Bosco Youth Service Network’s Program, and Ms. Elaine Lei, TQUK Certified Financial Literacy Instructor (UK) and CFQCC Asia-Pacific Children’s Financial Literacy Coach, as speakers, inviting participants to learn financial literacy in creative and innovative ways.

Ms. Akiko Takahashi, Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff to Melco Chairman & CEO, said, “Nurturing and providing meaningful opportunities for local youth is a core pillar of Melco’s CSR initiatives. Financial literacy is more than just how to save – it is a critical life skill that shapes future wellbeing. Through this program, we are glad to support young people as they build healthy financial habits, enabling them to make informed decisions and navigate their futures with confidence.”

Ms. Elaine Lei, said, “Melco demonstrates a strong sense of social responsibility and a keen interest in children’s development, creating a valuable learning platform for local families. Holistic child development requires a balance of IQ, EQ, and Financial Quotient (FQ). Financial literacy helps children cultivate sound values, learn how to make choices and trade-offs, and develop a sense of responsibility and goal setting. Through interactive sharing, participants began to appreciate their families’ efforts and established a foundational mindset regarding money management. It was truly gratifying to see the children reflect on what they had learned and gain new insights along the way.”

Melco colleague attendee Mr. Cyrus Chao said he valued the event, mentioning that such parent-child financial planning activities not only teach children practical financial knowledge and cultivate a positive money mindset, but also effectively strengthen parent-child bonds and enhance interaction and emotional connection.

Part of Melco’s signature “Simple Acts of Kindness” initiative, “Teaching Children Values” program aims to foster a spirit of service and community responsibility in the younger generation. In addition to enhancing parent-child relationships, the initiative encourages colleagues to include their children in volunteering and learning activities, enabling children the opportunity to take part in community services, gain meaningful experiences, learn important and positive life values, and cultivate love and good character from an early age.
