Hong Kong Autumn 2026: Festivals, Food & Fire Dragons

 This Autumn, Hong Kong comes alive during one of its most exciting times of year with a packed calendar of festivals, sporting events and immersive citywide celebrations. From ancient traditions and cultural spectacles to world-class gastronomy and outdoor adventures, autumn showcases why Hong Kong continues to strengthen its position as the Events Capital of Asia, while offering visitors a collection of Only in Hong Kong moments, from iconic harbourfront experiences and vibrant neighbourhoods to hidden natural escapes and one-of-a-kind cultural traditions.

Kickstarting the season from 17 to 27 September, Hong Kong’s Mid-Autumn Festival sees vibrant colours painting the city with lanterns in the skies and dragons on the streets as visitors are offered a unique opportunity to experience traditions and cultural artistry from across the globe. The International Lantern Spectacular, organised by Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) will light up Victoria Park, including the World Lantern Boulevard featuring festive lantern artistry from over 20 countries and regions. Lee Tung Avenue in the Wan Chai District will be illuminated by 800 traditional lanterns as it presents Moon Fest Lumiere running from now until 19 October, with an LED Fire Dragon Fiesta event on 25 September. Until 7 October, visitors who present a valid travel document and proof of identity into Hong Kong can redeem a free mini lantern and mini mooncake as a souvenir, along with exclusive offers from five selected merchants, including Hang Heung Bakery Café, GODIVA, N+ Burger, Shan Shau Jok and Vincenzo Capuano. Another highlight is the 147th Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance (14 to 16 September), one of Hong Kong’s most treasured cultural traditions and an event inscribed on the national list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Sports enthusiasts can see Hong Kong from a completely different perspective, on roads normally closed to cyclists, at the Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Cyclothon on 11 October. Hong Kong’s largest annual cycling event features 56km and 32km scenic rides, during which participants will enjoy a rare opportunity to cycle across iconic bridges, through tunnels and past some of the city’s most striking urban landscapes. Reinforcing its global standing, the event will welcome international riders, including Australia’s UCI WorldTeam and Team Jayco AlUla. The excitement continues off the course at the Cyclothon Carnival in the West Kowloon Cultural District, where visitors can enjoy a full day of sports, entertainment, family-friendly activities and gourmet experiences.

From 29 October to 1 November, the world’s top wineries, eateries and mixologists will take centre stage at the annual Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival as the Central Harbourfront transforms into a vibrant celebration of global flavours against the iconic Victoria Harbour skyline. With free entry for international visitors, the festival will feature over 300 booths, world-class wines, live entertainment, as well as exclusive tasting and food and wine pairing experiences to indulge. This year the festival will feature wines from more than 30 regions, including 12 wines presented by Australia, with three new additions from NSW, SA and TAS. The festival will also introduce “Only in Hong Kong” Flavours, featuring signature dishes from more than 100 Hong Kong restaurants, including Michelin-starred establishments, luxury hotels and beloved local favourites, celebrating the city’s rich and diverse culinary scene. The festivities will continue throughout November with Hong Kong Wine & Dine Month, bringing exclusive dining offers, curated menus and gourmet experiences to restaurants, bars and hotels across the city, inviting visitors to discover Hong Kong’s diverse and dynamic food scene.

As one of Asia’s best Halloween destinations, Hong Kong is elevating this year’s spooky season into a citywide party. For the first time, cosplay parties transform various corners of Hong Kong into distinct festive hubs across two consecutive Saturdays (17 and 24 October), serving as an exclusive warm-up for the grand finale on Halloween night (31 October). Every participating district will feature unique themes and local collaborations, creating a massive stage for creative transformations that bring the entire city together. Hong Kong’s theme parks are also set to thrill visitors with signature Halloween events. Visitors to Hong Kong Disneyland Resort are invited to unleash their wicked side at Disney Halloween Time (18 September to 1 November 2026). As Disney Villains take over the park, guests can look forward to an immersive celebration filled with fan-favourite Halloween-themed entertainment, captivating villain encounters, themed dining experiences and trick-or-treat fun. Ocean Park’s Halloween Fest returns from 5 September to 1 November. This year, the Park is breaking traditional boundaries by partnering with Under the Castle, the globally acclaimed original fantasy IP created and creatively directed by global music and style icon Jackson Wang.

From November onwards, Hong Kong WinterFest ushers in the festive season with a spectacular Christmas Town, complemented by immersive light displays across Central, Tsim Sha Tsui and Causeway Bay, seasonal shopping and dining experiences, and holiday attractions throughout the city. The celebrations will culminate in the spectacular New Year Countdown Celebrations (31 December), featuring a dazzling fireworks musical over Victoria Harbour. Whether drawn by culture, sport, culinary excellence or outdoor adventure, travellers will find unforgettable experiences waiting around every corner in Asia’s world city.

Recent data revealed that Australian arrivals to Hong Kong have continued to grow year-on-year with the latest Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) statistics for January-July 2026 showing a 20% boost, and a total of 301,355 Aussies heading to the destination. The destination’s world-class signature events, paired with its location as a diverse hub for extended stopovers places Hong Kong as a must-visit for Australasian travellers.
