Cathay Pacific has found a fitting way to mark its 80th birthday: put the world on sale and let the passports do the celebrating.
The Hong Kong carrier’s month-long anniversary offer covers more than 70 destinations. It is open from 1 to 30 September 2026 for travel between 16 October 2026 and 17 June 2027. That gives travellers a generous booking runway and gives advisers something useful to sell well beyond the next school holiday.
The timing carries more than a whiff of nostalgia. Cathay began in 1946 with one aircraft and an ambitious idea. Eight decades later, the airline is using its “80 Years Together” celebrations to remind travellers that Hong Kong remains both a destination and one of aviation’s great crossroads.
From Sydney, the headline cities are Vancouver, New York, Taipei, Seoul, Amsterdam, London, Beijing and Shanghai. Auckland travellers can find special return fares to Vancouver, Taipei, Seoul, Amsterdam, London, Beijing and Shanghai.
There is a quiet romance in that rollcall: harbour cities, winter streets and old capitals, all suddenly looking less like pins on a map and more like plausible plans.
The offer spans all cabins on selected fare types. It is also available through both travel advisers and direct channels. That matters. A sale may provide the spark, but a capable adviser can still build the stopovers, hotels and connections that turn a cheap seat into a proper holiday.
For the trade, the long travel window is the real prize. Asia breaks, European holidays and North American trips can all sit under the same campaign. That makes the offer useful for couples, families, corporate travellers and clients who still prefer a little comfort with their crossing. Eighty years in the air should, after all, earn more than a cake in the crew room.
Cathay members booking directly on the airline’s website from 1 to 15 September can secure extra savings for travel from 15 September to 10 December 2026.
Members departing Australia can receive $80 off flights to Asia, including Hong Kong, with code CX80AU. Those leaving New Zealand can receive $108 off flights to Asia with code CX80NZ. An additional $138 saving applies on eligible journeys from Australia or New Zealand to the United Kingdom, Europe, North America, and other long-haul markets, using CX80AULH or CX80NZLH.
The amounts are advertised by departure market, so customers should confirm the applicable currency and full conditions before paying. Discount inventory is limited, and the words “subject to availability” remain the airline industry’s least romantic but most dependable travelling companions.
There is also a mileage sweetener. New Cathay members can earn 1,080 bonus Asia Miles until early October. Members whose membership number contains an eight or zero may collect another 866 bonus miles until 15 September. Together, the two offers can add up to 1,946 miles, provided all conditions are met, and the membership number is entered when booking.
Hong Kong-bound travellers have another option. A Flight + Hotel booking for at least two people can attract an advertised $270 saving when you use code CX80WTRP6J by 15 September. Cathay’s official package page lists travel from 10 September to 10 December 2026 and says the Australian offer excludes Adelaide.
For travellers, this is a broad sale with some genuinely useful extras. For advisers, it is a timely reason to call clients who have been talking about London, New York or Asia but have yet to move beyond talking.
The sensible course is the old-fashioned one: check the fare rules, compare the total trip cost and book while the right seats remain. Birthday candles burn briefly. Good airfares have much the same habit.

Christine’s story is one of quiet courage, told without fuss and lived with remarkable grace. She arrived in Australia as a young refugee from Vietnam, carrying little more than hope, family, and a curiosity that refused to be extinguished. Sydney became home, built patiently, brick by careful brick.
She studied Tourism at TAFE and soon found her place in inbound travel, working with one of the city’s leading destination companies. Christine loved showing visitors the Australia that lives beyond postcards, warmer, truer, and far more interesting.
When the sea began to whisper, and life asked for a gentler rhythm, she listened. Designing brochures, writing blogs, she discovered storytelling waiting quietly inside her.
Today, at Global Travel Media, Christine writes with warmth and wisdom, reminding us, softly and persuasively, why travel still matters.
