Zuma is thrilled to announce its debut in Niseko, launching as an exclusive seasonal pop-up this winter – with early reservations open from 14 August 2026.
Marking the brand’s first opening in Japan, the launch represents a significant milestone in Zuma’s global journey and is especially meaningful given its Japanese heritage. Opening just ahead of Zuma’s 25th anniversary, the Niseko pop-up celebrates the brand’s continued evolution while bringing its internationally acclaimed contemporary izakaya experience to one of the world’s leading alpine destinations.
Located in the heart of the Hirafu area, the venue sits just a four-minute drive from the Niseko Tokyu Grand HIRAFU slopes, right next to its world-class powder snow and unparalleled night skiing experiences. Niseko, one of Japan’s most iconic ski regions, provides the perfect setting to introduce Zuma’s vibrant, high-energy dining experience to international travellers and winter sports enthusiasts.
The interior design of Zuma Niseko embodies the brand’s signature aesthetic, familiar across its iconic venues worldwide – balancing organic and contemporary elements – with intricate timber-slatted ceilings and bespoke wood-chip floor lamps adding warmth throughout the restaurant. Guests will be seated on custom-designed winter furniture upholstered in wool bouclé in Zuma’s signature colour palette, while a dedicated Chef’s Table offers an immersive view into the energy of the open kitchen.
The robata counter continues to take centre stage in true Zuma style. The counter is crafted from authentic, Japanese-sourced Date Kan stone, featuring an oxidised front edge. Glazed Japanese ceramic tiles on the robata back wall add a splash of rich red to the neutral interior scheme. Patterned bronze window screens filter the winter light, while matching, hand-carved teak screens—crafted in Indonesia and inspired by snowflakes—form the private dining room.
The front-of-house wine cellar creates a striking showcase for the restaurant’s extensive sake and wine collection, complementing the dining experience with an exceptional selection of premium sakes, global wines, Japanese whiskies and Zuma’s signature cocktails. Adding to the vibrant atmosphere throughout the winter season, a dedicated Zuma DJ counter has also been integrated into the space.
The menu will showcase Zuma’s bold style of contemporary Japanese cuisine, featuring freshly prepared nigiri, sashimi and signature dishes from the main kitchen and robata grill, all defined by the brand’s unmistakable umami-rich flavours.
Accommodating up to 141 guests, Zuma Niseko will operate seven days a week, evolving seamlessly from a vibrant après-ski destination into an energetic evening dining experience. The venue will open from 3pm for premium après-ski drinks, followed by dinner service from 5pm. Designed as a social destination for groups, Zuma also features an intimate private dining room for up to 12 guests, while its flexible layout comfortably accommodates parties of 10 to 20 throughout the restaurant, offering an elevated alternative to private chalet dining for families and friends gathering during the ski season.
Reservations for the winter season open on 14 August 2026, giving visitors the opportunity to secure their tables ahead of the season.
Sven Koch, Chief Executive Officer of the Azumi Group, commented: “After more than two decades of bringing contemporary Japanese cuisine to some of the world’s leading destinations, making our debut in Japan is an incredibly special milestone for Zuma. As we approach our 25th anniversary, opening in the country that inspired the brand and celebrating our Japanese heritage feels like a natural and meaningful moment in our journey. This is one of the most exciting projects our teams have ever been part of, and we look forward to welcoming guests to experience our signature flavours and vibrant energy in Niseko this winter.”
