Princess Cruises is preparing to swap ocean swells for a sea of flowers. The cruise line will return to Pasadena on 1 January 2027. It will join the 138th Rose Parade presented by Honda.
It will be Princess Cruisesā second year in a row at the famous New Yearās Day event. This time, the line will bring the 2027 Tournament of Roses theme, āWelcomeā, to life. A new destination-inspired float will carry the message.
Called āWelcome Aboard ā Find Your Storyā, the float will celebrate travel, culture and human connection. It is a neat fit for cruising. Every voyage starts with a welcome. Most end with a story that gets better with each retelling.
Princess plans to take parade spectators around the world. Better still, nobody needs to find a passport.
āEvery destination we visit is unique and every guest finds stories they share again and again. We’re honored to bring that same spirit of discovery and belonging to this year’s Rose Parade,ā said Marie Lee, Princess Cruises Chief Marketing Officer. āFor 60 years, Princess’ global fleet has welcomed travelers to extraordinary places, creating lasting memories through meaningful journeys across the world’s most remarkable cultures and destinations.ā
Princess says its fleet sails to 345 destinations across all seven continents. Four regions will take centre stage on the float. They are Alaska, Japan, Australia and Europe.
Alaska will be seen through its glaciers, mountains and wildlife. Japan will feature cherry blossoms, quiet temples and traditional art.
Australia should be easy to spot. The sails of the Sydney Opera House will be there. So will golden beaches, native wildlife and the Outback. Europe will bring villages, history and dramatic coastlines.
In other words, it is a world cruise made from petals rather than port calls.
The parade will take place on Friday, 1 January 2027. The Pasadena Tournament of Roses has confirmed Terry Madigan as its 2027 president. It has also confirmed āWelcomeā as the official theme. The idea centres on belonging, friendship, family and community.
āThe Rose Parade has always been about bringing people together through creativity, community and shared traditions,ā said Madigan. āPrincess Cruises embodies this year’s theme ‘Welcome’ ā by bringing people together to celebrate shared experiences and the warmth of making everyone feel welcome. We’re delighted to have Princess Cruises back for a second consecutive year and look forward to sharing their inspiring message as part of our New Year’s Day celebration.ā
The Princess float will be hard to miss. Artistic Entertainment Services will design and build it. Princess says it will be about 55 feet long. It will stand about 22 feet high.
More than 320,000 flowers, seeds, bark, leaves and other natural materials will cover the float. Animation will add movement. It will help bring the cruise story to life.
That is a serious amount of floral engineering for a vessel that will never touch salt water. On the upside, nobody needs to ask which deck has the buffet.
The appearance also gives Princess a strong marketing platform. The cruise line has a long history in Los Angeles. Pasadena puts the brand in front of a huge New Year audience.
Princess says about 800,000 people watch from Colorado Boulevard. It also cites more than 28 million US television viewers. Millions more watch around the world.
For travel advisors, the message is simple. Ships may carry the holiday. Destinations often sell the dream.
Alaskaās glaciers, Japanās temples, Australiaās coastline and Europeās villages are powerful images. They can turn a casual idea into a real booking. Princess is using the Rose Parade to put those images in front of millions of potential travellers.
The 2027 float does more than promote a cruise brand. It links travel with welcome, discovery and shared experience. Those are themes the travel industry understands very well.
And if more than 320,000 flowers cannot make someone think about their next holiday, the industry may finally have found a marketing challenge worthy of the name.
