Buyan Lakeside Villas has officially opened on the shores of Lake Buyan, introducing an intimate premier highland retreat at 1,300 metres above sea level in the village of Pancasari, surrounded by mist-covered mountains and tropical rainforest in North Bali. Designed as an exclusive sanctuary for couples, families, and wellness seekers, the villas provide an elegant escape from the heat and bustle of the coastal areas in the south, surrounding guests with misty mountain air, tropical flora, and breathtaking panoramic lake views.
The retreat comprises just five private villas, each positioned to embrace its natural surroundings. Four spacious one-bedroom villas—Sumba, Ulun Danu, Minang and Waerebo named after Indonesian regencies—offer 80 square metres of living space, while the two-bedroom Toraja is the largest at 160 square metres with an adjoining living/dining room. Each villa features tastefully designed architecture that harmonizes traditional Asian aesthetics with contemporary comfort, and upscale toiletries and amenities. Guests can lounge on day beds in private balconies and outdoor living spaces optimized for taking in dramatic sunrises and morning mists over the lake. Each villa has its own pantry stocked with coffee, tea and soft drinks. Daily housekeeping and powerful fibre optics wifi are also available. Traditional Balinese massages can also be arranged in the privacy of each villa.
Guests can make use of the 15-metre heated swimming pool overlooking the lake. Pepper Lane Café, named after the pepper plantations proliferating the road, welcomes both staying guests and outside visitors. The menu combines Western and Asian favourites with premium coffee, handcrafted desserts and fresh produce sourced from the local farms nearby.

One of Bali’s four sacred lakes, Lake Buyan lies within an ancient volcanic caldera and is surrounded by protected forest. With no motorised boats and little tourist traffic, the lake retains a sense of calm increasingly difficult to find elsewhere on the island.
Guests can explore the surrounding landscape through guided fishing excursions and the Twin Lake Rainforest Track, a two- to three-hour route through ancient jungle connecting Lake Buyan with neighbouring Lake Tamblingan. The trail passes secluded temples and culturally significant sites accompanied by a local guide.
Other nearby attractions include the landmark Pura Ulun Danu Beratan water temple, a 15-minute drive away; the iconic Handara Gate, fronts the championship Handara Golf Club, one of only two golf clubs in Bali; and Banyumala Twin Waterfalls, reached via a gentle forest hike.
