UK tour operator, Art Safari have just launched a 2027 Malawi painting holiday as their ‘Trip of the Week’. Artist and Malawi expert Mary-Anne Bartlett offers guests the chance to explore and paint one of Africa’s most beautiful and welcoming countries.
Taking place from 21 September to 30 September 2027, the trip will focus on the southern reaches of the Great Rift Valley, where the vast waters of Lake Malawi meet rugged escarpments, palm-fringed riverbanks and wildlife-rich floodplains.
The itinerary is designed to offer a varied and inspiring painting experience, combining time beside Lake Malawi with safari-based sketching in Liwonde National Park. Guests will stay on Nankoma Island, surrounded by the crystal-clear waters of Lake Malawi, with opportunities to swim, snorkel, relax and paint the changing colours of the lake.
The group will also spend five days in Liwonde National Park, one of Africa’s notable conservation success stories. Here, elephants, lion, cheetah, sable antelope, hippos, crocodiles and abundant birdlife provide rich inspiration, while boat safaris along the Shire River and game drives through the park offer chances to observe and sketch wildlife at close quarters. Black rhino, wild dog and buffalo may also be seen in the park.
Mary-Anne Bartlett first visited Malawi in 1991 as an expedition artist on In Livingstone’s Footsteps and has returned many times since. Her longstanding connection with the country gives the trip a personal dimension, offering guests insight into Malawi’s landscapes, wildlife and people. Art Safari describes the journey as an unforgettable adventure through a country that captures hearts as easily as it fills sketchbooks.
