PATA has opened its search for a new Chief Executive Officer, putting one of Asia Pacific tourism’s key jobs on the market.
The full-time role is based in Bangkok, Thailand. Applications close at 6 pm GMT+8 on 20 August 2026. That is 8 pm AEST for candidates in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
The new CEO will set PATA’s direction and oversee its day-to-day operations. The role also involves close contact with the Executive Board, PATA Chapters, members and trade partners.
This is not a ceremonial job with a fine title and a stack of name badges. The successful applicant will need sound judgement, strong people skills and a clear plan for the years ahead.
PATA was founded in 1951 and is marking its 75th anniversary in 2026. The not-for-profit membership association works with public and private bodies across the travel and tourism sector. Its stated purpose is to advance a meaningful Pacific Asia tourism economy.
Noor Ahmad Hamid was appointed PATA CEO from 1 October 2023 for a three-year term. He brought 35 years of travel and tourism experience to the role, including extensive work in business events and association management.
PATA’s careers notice does not name a successor or explain why the new recruitment process has opened. It would therefore be premature to place a farewell garland around anyone’s neck.
The vacancy is aimed at a proven leader from tourism, hospitality or a related field. The job calls for someone who can work across markets, cultures, and sectors while keeping a wide range of members aligned.
That will take more than a polished speech and a well-stamped passport.
