Independent travel advisors from across Australia came together at 1000 Mile Travel Group’s “Connections” event, celebrating the power of community, collaboration, and shared expertise  while addressing the evolving challenges facing travel businesses today.

Held at the award-winning 1 Hotel Melbourne on 16 July 2026, and sponsored by the hotel and Expedia TAAP, the event brought together 16 travel advisors and 26 attendees, including 1000MTG team members and supplier partners.

Designed to support advisors at every stage of their business journey, Connections showcased the benefits of being part of a global host travel agency network. The event provided independent advisors with access to industry expertise, supplier partnerships, technology, and a connected community that supports business growth.

“Connections is about more than bringing our advisors together; it’s about creating a space where they can share ideas, discuss challenges and learn from one another. We’ve received feedback that advisors want more opportunities like this, which reinforces how valuable face-to-face connection and peer support are in helping independent businesses thrive,” said Lauren Gray, 1000MTG General Manager Australia.

A key focus of the event was supporting advisors through current industry challenges, including the impact of Reserve Bank of Australia changes on travel businesses. Advisors participated in open and practical discussions around the potential impact on profitability, sharing strategies to minimise the effect on their bottom line.

1000MTG also shared the proactive steps it’s taking with supplier partners, including Mint Payments, to explore solutions that could reduce the impact of these changes and continue supporting advisors’ long-term business success.

“The travel industry continues to evolve, and our role is to ensure advisors have the support, resources and partnerships they need to adapt and grow. Having honest conversations about challenges, sharing ideas and working collaboratively with our suppliers allows us to find practical solutions that benefit our network,” said Gray.

The afternoon also included business updates from the leadership team, insights into the company’s FY26 achievements and FY27 strategy, operational updates, supplier education, and interactive workshops focused on helping advisors strengthen their businesses.

“Working from home is mostly a positive experience but you certainly miss that connection with your colleagues. Events like the  1000MTG Connections day are so important as it gives everyone a chance to meet, share experiences and learn from each other, the simple things we took for granted when working each day in shops and offices,” said Kurt Hufer, 1000MTG Independent Travel Advisor.

A highlight of the event was the “Speed Dating” sessions, which gave advisors the opportunity to connect one-on-one, exchange ideas and share insights from their different areas of expertise. Advisors also enjoyed an exclusive hotel inspection, followed by dinner at From Here by Mike, creating further opportunities for connection beyond formal sessions.

“The Connections event in Melbourne was really great for reconnecting with our peers, exchanging insights and information, receiving head office updates and taking a trip interstate. I think these in-person workshops are really valuable and hopefully we get to attend another one next year,” reflected Amy Crossland, 1000MTG independent Travel Advisor.

The event reflects 1000MTG’s continued investment in its advisor community, providing independent travel professionals with more than just technology and supplier access – a connected network where they can learn, collaborate, and grow.

“We’re incredibly grateful to the team at 1 Hotel Melbourne for providing such an exceptional setting. From the venue and outstanding service to the unforgettable dining experience, it was the perfect backdrop for bringing our advisor community together,” said Gray.
