Avalon Waterways has put a sharp new price point on Europe. Its latest Fly Free sale gives Australian travellers return international airfares on selected 2027 river cruises.
There is more on the table. Guests can also save up to $1,400 per couple on selected sailings. Bookings close on 30 October 2026. As ever, the deal rests on available flights, cabins and the full terms.
For Australians, the pitch is easy to grasp. Europe is a long way from home. Airfares can swallow a large part of the holiday budget before the first castle or café comes into view. By folding flights into the cruise package, Avalon removes a major cost and one of the duller jobs on the travel list.
The sale covers selected departures on two well-known routes: Magnificent Europe and Romantic Rhine.
Magnificent Europe is the star turn. The 15-day cruise runs between Amsterdam and Budapest. It links the Rhine, Main, and Danube rivers and passes through the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, and Hungary. This is Europe served as a generous tasting plate. There are Dutch canals, German wine towns, Vienna’s grand old streets and Budapest making a suitably bold entrance.
Romantic Rhine offers a shorter route with no shortage of scenery. Selected cruises take in the Netherlands, Germany, France and Switzerland. Guests pass vineyard slopes, old towns and castle-lined riverbanks. It is Europe in its Sunday best, with far less packing and no argument about who folded the map.
Avalon’s ships add substance to the sale. Panorama Suites have wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling windows that open wide to form the line’s Open-Air Balcony. Comfort Collection beds face the view. Guests can therefore watch Europe drift past before their feet find the floor, which is surely the civilised order of things.
The cruise line also includes Avalon Choice tours in Classic, Discovery and Active styles. Guests may join a guided city walk, explore local food and culture, or choose a more active day by bike, kayak or on foot. The format gives people room to travel at their own pace.
That choice matters. Premium travellers still want comfort, but many no longer want each day marched past them with a clipboard and whistle.
For travel advisors, the offer is clean and easy to sell. It joins a premium European river cruise with international flights and extra savings on some dates. It also gives clients a firm reason to plan 2027 now rather than leave the decision to “sometime later”, travel’s most crowded departure lounge.
The fine print still deserves a proper look. Fly Free terms vary by route and departure. Air seats, cruise cabins and savings are limited and subject to the booking rules in force at the time. Avalon also advises that airline schedules and fare availability can change.
