Melco Resorts & Entertainment has been dedicated to supporting the Macao SAR Government in advancing moderate economic diversification. To reinforce Macao’s status as a “City of Performing Arts”, Melco Resorts & Entertainment Presents: “Leia Zhu and Macao Orchestra”, featuring 19-year-old violin prodigy Leia Zhu’s Macao debut, took place on June 13 at the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium.
At the concert, Zhu was joined by Macao Orchestra and its Music Director and Principal Conductor, Lio Kuokman, for the mesmerizing performance of Sibelius’ technically demanding “Violin Concerto in D minor”. In the second half, the Macao Orchestra presented Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 in G Major, featuring soprano Vivian Yau with her ethereal voice in “Das himmlische Leben.”
Leveraging Macao’s role as an important window for cultural exchange and mutual learning, Melco further hosted a “Meet the Musicians” event on June 14 to cultivate young local talent, providing an opportunity for the community to meet with Zhu and Lio.
Melco extended invitations to the community through partners including The School of Music of Macao Conservatory, Academia de Música São Pio X, Sheng Kung Hui Astor Shore, and Macau Autism Association. Approximately 120 attendees joined the event, including local music students, community members, as well as Melco parent-child volunteers, who enjoyed and experienced Zhu’s charismatic music playing once more at the dedicated session. As winner of the Young Talent of the Year at the 2025 Opus Klassik Award in Germany, Zhu is widely regarded as one of the most promising young violinists of her generation. Performing since the age of four and having toured over 20 countries, the rising violin star shared her inspiration and invaluable insights about performing on the international stage with audience members.
Mr. Clarence Chung, Melco Board Director, said, “Melco is honored to continue our close collaboration with the Macao Orchestra in bringing world-class performing arts to the city and strengthening cultural exchanges with the nearby regions. Welcoming a phenomenal young talent like Leia Zhu for her Macao debut perfectly reflects our ongoing commitment to nurturing youth talent and enriching local cultural life. Through such extraordinary performances and youth-focused engagement events at Studio City, we aim to inspire the next generation of local musicians and further enhance Macao’s status as a global hub for arts and culture.”
Attending the meet the musician event with her daughter, Tables Games department colleague and Melco parent-child volunteer Ms. Saber Ao, said, “I was very happy to participate in this event today. My daughter is learning music too, so I signed up as soon as I heard about it. After watching Leia Zhu’s performance, I was deeply moved. I saw how immersed she became in her music. It’s amazing how focusing and a sense of immersion are required in everything we do. Combined with her talent, this is what makes this young musician so successful. This was very inspiring for us. I brought my child here hoping for her to learn that feeling.” Ms. Ao’s daughter added, “I found today’s performance to be very special; it was unlike anything I’d ever heard before. The emotional impact of watching Leia Zhu’s performance live is incomparable to watching it online.”
Fellow attendee, student of Academia de Música São Pio X Mr. Wong Hou Cheng, said, “I’m thrilled to participate in this, my second meet-and-greet with musicians organized by Melco. I also enjoyed the concert by the Macao Orchestra and violinist Leia Zhu yesterday, which was truly wonderful. I am learning violin and asked Leia Zhu some questions during today’s Q&A session. She shared some techniques based on diligent practice, which will surely help me achieve my desired progress and results more quickly.”
