Spread the love

Over the past year, outbound travel has evolved from “relying on travel guides” to “following interest inspiration”. Travelers currently pursue spiritual resonance, yearn for the unfamiliar, and seek fresh urban vibes in their travel mindset. Singapore is one of the outbound destinations that can live up to these expectations.

Meanwhile, Xiaohongshu boasts 520,000 travel creators with over 1,000 followers, where users define new ways to travel and the industry captures new business opportunities.

Driven by both people’s longing for this distant place and the strong appeal of exotic styles, Xiaohongshu Business recently established a strategic cooperation with Singapore Tourism Board to jointly seize the market opportunities brought by this transformation.

Courser of Woodland, Asia’s premium spirits group specialising in beverage trading, education and digitalisation, today launched WOODLANCE, a mobile app that allows buyers across the region to own a certified share of a Scotch or Japanese whisky cask — with fractions starting from US$100 (approximately HK$780), without the need to commit to an entire barrel.

The company was incubated by Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation and selected as a supporting venture by Japan External Trade Organization. WOODLANCE is the first platform in Asia to combine cask fractionalisation, custom bottling and online-to-offline (O2O) commerce in a single app, layering tasting events, virtual cask tracking and distillery education on top. At launch, the platform features 20 curated casks from 10 partner distilleries across Scotland and Japan, with new releases added monthly.

A Hong Kong-born platform for Asia’s whisky era

The app arrives as fractional whisky trading gains ground across the region. Asia Pacific’s premium spirits market generated approximately US$83.9 billion in revenue in 2025, with whisky as the largest product segment, and younger collectors in Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo and Taipei increasingly treating rare casks and bottles as an alternative asset class alongside art and watches. According to the WHO, there are approximately 2.5 billion drinkers worldwide — a vast base of potential collectors that traditional cask ownership models have largely locked out.

Hong Kong sits at a unique intersection. The city is firmly established as the region’s auction capital and gateway for fine whisky, while Asia remains a key engine of growth for the global premium spirits market. Yet the sector has been held back by steep capital barriers that locked most retail enthusiasts out of cask ownership, a string of cask-investment scams in other markets, and limited visibility into secondary-market pricing.

Authenticity sits at the centre of WOODLANCE’s architecture. Built on a secure, institutional-grade data architecture, the platform streamlines the cask lifecycle through optimised distillery workflows and multi-stage approval protocols. Upon bottling, each unit is equipped with an encrypted NFC chip linked to a permanent blockchain record. This creates a seamless “tap-to-verify” experience that gives collectors instant access to a cask’s full provenance and immutable proof of authenticity.

“Whether you’re discovering your first single cask in Hong Kong, building a serious portfolio in Japan, or running a bar programme in Singapore, we want to put transparency, education and access in the palm of your hand. For the next generation of Asian collectors, this digital layer is turning a mysterious category into something transparent, personal and genuinely social,” said Alvin Lam, Founder, Courser of Woodland.

Making cask ownership personal

WOODLANCE is designed to lift those barriers, starting with the buyer. Fractional ownership lowers the financial barrier from a full cask purchase to an accessible share. Users can buy, hold, bottle or resell their share through a single transaction flow that handles international payments, cross-border logistics and door-to-door delivery via trusted importer and forwarder partners, freeing buyers from the complexities of overseas distribution and double-taxation on re-exports.

Enthusiasts across Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, Taipei and beyond can browse curated Scottish and Japanese casks from leading distilleries — releases that have traditionally required personal industry contacts or overseas trips. Newer drinkers receive taste-matched recommendations; seasoned collectors can explore tasting notes, curator-led masterclasses and distillery stories that bring provenance to life.

Backing the whole whisky ecosystem, not just the buyer

Beyond the retail collector, WOODLANCE serves every part of the premium whisky supply chain.

In a traditional model, new distilleries generate very little income during the initial maturing period — creating heavy cash-flow pressure at the most critical stage of production. WOODLANCE’s pre-order and crowdfunding tools allow distilleries to fund new casks through engaged buyers ahead of maturation, while also giving them direct, data-rich access to overseas audiences that would otherwise depend entirely on importers and distributors. WOODLANCE additionally gathers actionable purchasing data and ownership trends, allowing brands to develop targeted loyalty strategies without relying on opaque third-party sales reports.

Bars, restaurant groups and hospitality operators can club together on cask shares or private-label bottlings without taking on a full barrel alone — eliminating the high conversion costs and local-only reach that have long constrained the industry’s B2B segment.

WOODLANCE grows out of Courser of Woodland’s larger offering, including tastings, pairing dinners, masterclasses, guest shifts and private bottlings that have given the team a close read on how Asian collectors actually buy and trade whisky. Looking ahead, the company plans to expand its distillery partnerships into new markets and host an immersive distillery tour in Japan for the WOODLANCE community.
