Vietjet is strengthening its position as a key connector between Australia and Asia through a major South Asia expansion, announcing a new direct service to Sri Lanka alongside strategic aviation partnerships in India.
New connectivity between Vietnam and Sri Lanka
Vietjet has announced its entry into the Sri Lankan market with a new international route connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Colombo, creating new one-stop travel opportunities for Australians travelling between Australia, Vietnam and South Asia. The announcement came during the state visit of Vietnam’s General Secretary and President To Lam to Sri Lanka.
With the commencement planned for August 2026, the Ho Chi Minh City–Colombo service will operate four return flights per week, supporting stronger tourism, trade and cultural ties between Vietnam and Sri Lanka while expanding regional connectivity across Asia-Pacific markets.
The new route will also provide travellers from Sri Lanka with easier access to Vietjet’s broader international network, including Australian destinations via Vietnam as the airline is operating directly between Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Ho Chi Minh City.

Vietjet expands strategic partnerships in India
Vietjet has also signed strategic cooperation agreements with India’s leading enterprises, GMR Airports Limited and Bird Group, aimed at advancing aviation infrastructure, services, technology and tourism connectivity between Vietnam and India.
The agreements are expected to support stronger economic, trade and people-to-people ties between the two countries.Partnership highlights:
- Vietjet and GMR Airports Limited will explore opportunities to jointly develop air connectivity, airport infrastructure, logistics, aviation services, smart airports and long-term investment initiatives.
- Vietjet and Bird Group will focus on ground handling services, training, aviation technology, travel and hospitality, aiming to enhance service quality and passenger experience.
