Uniworld Boutique River Cruises have launched their brand-new Super Ship into the fleet this week with the S.S. Emilie officially christened in the centre of Amsterdam.
With the usual Uniworld flourishes, the ceremony included a traditional breaking of Champagne on the bow to bring good luck and safe passage to all those who sail aboard a new ship. During the special christening ceremony led by Uniworld CEO Ellen Bettridge, Ellen invited the ship’s godmother, Julie Higgins, and the ship’s captains to partake in the time-honoured practice of christening a new ship with Champagne.
Julie Higgins joined the Uniworld family 22 years ago as a cabin stewardess aboard the River Princess and progressed through the ranks to become Director of Hotel Operations, as well as the role of Uniworld’s global Sustainability Officer – she now adds ship godmother to her list of job titles.
The S.S. Emilie is sailing from Amsterdam to Antwerp on her inaugural ‘Tulips and Windmills’ cruise with 8 days of included excursions and all the usual Uniworld inclusions. The S.S. Emilie is sailing from Amsterdam to Antwerp on her inaugural ‘Tulips and Windmills’ cruise with 8 days of included excursions and all the usual Uniworld inclusions. The ship’s décor is inspired by master Viennese painter Gustav Klimt and in his honour, Uniworld has named the vessel after Klimt’s beloved muse, Emilie Flöge.

The S.S. Emilie embodies all the elements of Klimt’s signature style with dramatic colour hues, Art Nouveau elements and a 3-metre portrait of the muse herself in the ship’s atrium at the heart of the ship.
Emilie’s deck plan features interconnecting Grand Suites that adjoin with Deluxe French Balcony next door, staterooms creating an incredibly spacious 2-bedroom suite option. Each of the lavishly appointed and modern riverview staterooms on the S.S. Emilie have custom cotton sateen sheets, European duvets, and a menu of pillow options, individual thermostat air conditioning, Wi-Fi connected flat-screen TVs, and marble bathrooms featuring Asprey bath and body products.
