As a number of global tour operators scale back or cancel Mediterranean departures due to reduced traveller numbers from key markets including Australia, the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, Sun Island Tours has confirmed that all of its scheduled departures across the region continue to operate as planned.
While some companies have withdrawn from destinations such as Egypt, Jordan and Turkey, Sun Island Tours remains fully committed to the region, with no cancellations across its Mediterranean program.
This resilience is underpinned by the company’s unique product structure, which offers both FIT (Flexible Independent Travel) packages and escorted coach tours that are guaranteed to operate with a minimum of just two passengers.
“Our model is fundamentally different,” said John Polyviou, Joint CEO of Sun Island Tours. “As long as we have one booking with two passengers on a departure, that tour will go ahead. This provides certainty for both agents and their clients at a time when confidence is critical.”
Sun Island Tours continues to operate extensively across the Mediterranean, including destinations where other operators have reduced or withdrawn capacity, such as Egypt, Jordan and Turkey, as well as key European markets like Italy and Spain, which have also been impacted by lower passenger volumes despite being far removed from the current Middle East situation.
“Our program includes over 800 tours and packages across the region, with most operating weekly departures year-round. This breadth ensures full regional coverage, including 58 guaranteed coach tours in Italy and 85 in Spain.”
In addition to escorted touring, the company’s FIT offering allows travel agents to tailor fully customised itineraries, backed by over 35 years of on-the-ground expertise and long-standing supplier relationships throughout the Mediterranean and Middle East.
“We’ve built our business on flexibility, strong local partnerships, and a deep understanding of the region,” added Polyviou. “That allows us to continue operating where others cannot, and more importantly, to give agents and their clients the confidence to keep travelling.”
Sun Island Tours remains Australia’s most established and trusted Mediterranean specialist, continuing to support travel agents with reliable, guaranteed product during a period of uncertainty in the global travel landscape.
