The Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) is pleased to announce the arrival of over 850 visitors from Taipei, Taiwan, who have chosen the beautiful shores of Guam as their destination to ring in the Lunar New Year holiday. This significant influx of travelers marks a strong start to the holiday period and underscores the appeal of Guam as a premier Pacific getaway.
The welcoming initiative began on Saturday, February 14 with the arrival of the first of multiple full-capacity flights operated by both STARLUX Airlines and United Airlines. GVB, joined by the Guam International Airport Authority (GIAA)’s Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighters (ARFF) team, ensured a warm greeting for all passengers. As travelers de-planed, they were immediately immersed in the Håfa Adai spirit with lively CHamoru music, Guam souvenirs, and an appearance by “Kika” the Ko’ko’ Bird.
The successful facilitation of these charter operations involved collaborative efforts with key travel agencies in Taiwan: Lion Travel, Spunk Tour, and Sunny World, which partnered with STARLUX Airlines, and Phoenix Tour, which successfully marketed and sold comprehensive holiday packages utilizing United Airlines direct flight services.
The impressive seat sales across all eight charters serve as a tangible measure of the Taiwanese market’s strong enthusiasm for Guam as an ideal, easily accessible holiday destination. The success of these chartered flights not only provides a welcome boost to Guam’s tourism sector but also demonstrates the potential for sustained growth in the Taiwan market, particularly when strategically aligning with major holiday periods like the Lunar New Year.
In an effort to provide added value to visitors and support local businesses, GVB offered dinner show and meal incentives to the visitors during their 4-5 day stay.
“GVB is honored to host these travelers for the Year of the Horse celebrations and views this holiday period as a prime opportunity to showcase Guam’s distinctive hospitality while supporting local businesses,” said GVB President & CEO Régine Biscoe Lee. “By continuing to actively support both direct flight paths and flexible charter options, GVB remains dedicated to nurturing the deep-rooted, mutually beneficial relationship that exists between Taiwan and Guam for the benefit of both destinations.”
