SUIGIAN (Owner: Hidetomo Kimura), a restaurant and bar located beneath Fukutoku Shrine in Tokyo’s historic Nihonbashi district, announces the launch of a new experiential weekend lounge, “Tokyo Underground Arts Society, Produced by SUIGIAN,” starting in February 2026.
This new initiative fuses Japanese traditional culture with music, fashion, art, and cutting-edge technology to preserve it for future generations. Set against the backdrop of an authentic Noh stage, SUIGIAN’s new “Tokyo-born night culture” will introduce a world where tradition and technology complement each other.
■ A “Cultural Gateway” to Japan’s Nightlife
As inbound travelers surge, repeat visitors are seeking diverse and authentic experiences to understand Japan on a deeper level. However, a major challenge in the nighttime economy remains: the scarcity of venues offering authentic cultural experiences at night. Domestically, opportunities for younger generations to engage with traditional performing arts are also limited. Since 2018, SUIGIAN has been dedicated to showcasing traditional culture. By fusing this heritage with music, entertainment, fashion, art, and cuisine, it aims to tackle these challenges and create a welcoming “cultural gateway” within Japan’s nightlife scene.
■ SUIGIAN owner, Hidetomo Kimura, explains:
“Every country has nightlife content that reflects its local culture. Until now, Tokyo has nurtured a night scene that adopts overseas cultures to create trends. However, there have been few initiatives centered on Japanese aesthetics that are truly ‘Japan-originated’ and ‘Tokyo-born.’ Entry points to traditional culture can often feel intimidating or elitist, which is why we are daring to cross it with modern culture to create a new, accessible gateway. The key is not to alter the tradition itself, but to treat it with respect while shedding a new light on it. On weekend nights, our ‘underground secret society’ approach to Japanese arts will broadcast this new culture from Tokyo to the world.”
