Spread the love

Elegant dining in a relaxed informality with no dress code makes this luxury affordable at its best for special times and perfect for treating yourself, friends, or family.

Delightfully located on the second floor of the Erawan Bangkok, steps away from the city’s iconic Erawan Shrine, the Erawan Tea Room of the Grand Hyatt Erawan is a timeless retreat. Its design recalls the north of Thailand, with a nod to old Chinese Lanna style from Chiang Mai. Elegant ceiling lanterns above polished wood and plush seating invite you to linger. The bustle of the Erawan Shrine below from the large windows feels like a moving tapestry, viewed from a calm sanctuary above.

Afternoon Tea with a Thai Twist

Afternoon Tea is served daily from 2.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. and is priced at THB 800++ per person. Unlike the strictly British tradition, this menu blends Thai flavours with classic teatime indulgences. The result is both exotic and familiar and, above all, welcoming. There is no dress code here — just come as you are and enjoy.

Afternoon Tea with a Thai Twist

Among the savoury highlights:

  • Deep-fried shrimp and bean curd sheet with black soy sauce
  • Steamed dumpling filled with prawn and water chestnut
  • Pandan-wrapped chicken with ginger syrup– my personal favourite appetiser, fragrant, tender, and delicately sweet

Sweet temptations presented on a classic 3-tiered tray arrive in colourful sequence:

  • Strawberry choux biscuit with Thai basil cream, pineapple, and mango
  • Coconut, passion fruit, and mango choux with a hint of charcoal pastry
  • Purple dragon fruit cheesecake
  • Thai tea mousse with lotus sorbet

And then there is the utterly delicious banana scone with sour cream, coconut, and pineapple chilli marmalade, a dish that steals the show. Golden, moist, and paired with sweet–spicy marmalade, it has quickly become my favourite.

The Setting

Classic Elegance

Classic Elegance

The interiors lean into Chiang Mai’s northern charm, mixing Thai-Chinese-inspired decorations, lacquerware, ceiling lanterns, and soft fabrics that create a deeply comforting atmosphere. The design is understated yet elegant, a blend of nostalgia and refinement.

This is elegant dining in a relaxed informality, with comfortable seating and warm service that make you feel right at home. It is an affordable luxury, designed for anyone who wants to treat themselves, friends, or family to something special in the city’s heart. Guests may enter easily from the street or through the hotel, making it convenient for city dwellers and visitors.

Why It’s Special

Afternoon tea here is more than a meal, it’s a journey through flavour and culture. With each bite, Thai ingredients are given an international stage, while the view of the Erawan Shrine reminds you of Bangkok’s spiritual heart. Few tea rooms in the city combine culinary creativity, cultural ambience, and accessible indulgence like this one.
