Spread the love

There are comebacks, and then there are stage-managed curtain calls. lebua, the Thai luxury brand with a taste for drama, is clearly going for the latter. With a flourish worthy of a Bollywood interval, lebua has chosen Udaipur, the City of Lakes, palaces, and lingering honeymoon selfies for its return to India.

Frankly, if you’re going to re-enter a country that never quite forgot you, Udaipur is the place to do it. Delhi may have the diplomats, Mumbai the billionaires, but Udaipur has the romance, which sells.

Not a hotel, but a boutique statement

Scheduled to open in Q3 2025, the new lebua Udaipur won’t be a sprawling monolith. With just 49 rooms, it’s pitched as a boutique experience: small enough to be intimate, large enough to host a destination wedding with 400 aunties in sequins.

On the menu: a signature restaurant, a bar where conversations will stretch into midnight, a lounge for plotting adventures or business coups, and a spa promising rejuvenation or at least the chance to postpone reality.

lebua is also playing to India’s fast-growing events market. The property has banquet halls and event spaces, which can morph from boardroom sober to Bollywood glitz on the weekend.

The CEO with a flourish

“This opening is not just about expanding into a new market it is about returning to India with renewed energy and vision,” said Narawadee Bualert, President & CEO of lebua.

She added: “As a Thai luxury brand with an international presence, lebua has always been defined by extraordinary guest experiences and culinary excellence. Udaipur’s timeless beauty and cultural vibrancy make it the perfect stage for our India comeback. Guests can expect lebua’s uncompromising standards, bespoke experiences, and heartfelt hospitality that we are celebrated for worldwide.”

The line “perfect stage” feels deliberate because Udaipur is less of a city and more of a film set waiting for its stars.

A homecoming of sorts

The Udaipur venture is personal for Rajan Khurana, Vice President of Operations.

“Earlier in my career, I had the privilege of managing a lebua property in Udaipur, which gave me a profound appreciation for the city’s heritage, culture, and the refined expectations of its travellers. To return now with another lebua hotel is both a homecoming and a professional milestone,” he said.

His description of Udaipur’s travellers as “refined” is telling. This is not a city for backpackers with Lonely Planet dog ears. Udaipur caters to couples on once-in-a-lifetime honeymoons, families with Rolls-Royces, and corporate groups keen to include “palace stay” in their CSR report.

Local confidence, global flair

Backing lebua is Saga Twenty First Leisure Pvt. Ltd., whose Director, Lokesh Ahuj, was brimming with confidence:

Partnering with lebua gives us confidence that this hotel will set a new benchmark for Udaipur. The city deserves a property that honours its heritage while elevating service excellence to international standards. With lebua’s expertise in creating extraordinary dining and guest experiences, we are confident this hotel will quickly become one of Udaipur’s most iconic addresses.”

The talk of “benchmarks” is predictable, but one suspects they’re not far wrong. Udaipur already has some of India’s finest hotels. To stand out here, you need more than chandeliers and rose petals; you need storytelling. And lebua, with its Bangkok dining legends, knows a thing or two about spectacle.

Where design meets drama

The new hotel promises to combine local craftsmanship with lebua’s design quirks. Expect jali-carved screens, sweeping lake views, and interiors that nod to Rajasthan while whispering Bangkok chic. The dining scene will straddle both worlds too: Rajasthani spice meets Thai refinement, with a likely dash of French flourish.

And yes, the spa and wellness program will be suitably bespoke — the kind where “detox” means something more stylish than giving up wine for a week.

Why now?

lebua’s timing is no accident. India’s luxury market is booming, weddings have become week-long productions, and travellers are once again seeking boutique experiences rather than cookie-cutter brands. By planting its flag back in Udaipur, lebua is signalling serious intentions to expand across India again.

With projects in India and Thailand in the pipeline, lebua looks less like a niche operator and more like a hospitality player determined to keep redefining the art of luxury dining-driven travel.

For those who’ve never sipped champagne on one of its Bangkok rooftops, lebua is a Thai luxury hospitality brand where gastronomy is the headline act. Its hotels are known for combining design, dining, and daring. With Udaipur back in the fold, lebua is once again writing itself into the script of Asia’s most desirable destinations.
