Australian families are beating the winter chill by planning their ultimate summer escape and international travel is firmly on the agenda.

New research from Australian travel company Luxury Escapes shows that 62% of Australian families are planning an overseas holiday this coming summer, with Thailand and Bali leading the charge as top destinations.

In a survey of more than 3,000 Australians, 52% said they plan to travel overseas during the December– January holidays, while 14% will stay local.

The remainder are still undecided, but intent to travel is notably stronger among families keen to take a  flop and drop holiday.

Bali, Thailand and Japan remain the most popular destinations on Australians’ travel wish lists, with Thailand and Bali proving familiarity breeds more content than contempt.

77% of Bali visitors and 73% of Thailand visitors are repeat holidaymakers, with more than one in five having travelled to either destination three or more times.

The latest website data shows search interest for “Bali with children” has surged 56% since the beginning of the year.

According to Luxury Escapes, travellers typically spend between $4,600 and $4,800 per adult for up to nine days in either location (including flights, accommodation and activities), making premium travel experiences more accessible.

Luxury Escapes Co-Founder and CEO Adam Schwab said that while our obsession with Japan shows no signs of slowing down, savvy Aussies recognise that Thailand and Bali deliver unbeatable value for luxury without the premium price tag.

“It’s all about affordable indulgence — getting maximum value from every hard-earned dollar and that’s what the lure is with Thailand and Bali. You get a five-star holiday, complete with butler service, private transfers, world-class massage and spa experiences and of course great kids clubs and private nanny services, for a fraction of the cost you’d pay in other destinations,” Schwab said.

He added, “Bali and Thailand deliver the look and feel of a high-end family holiday without the postholiday budget blues, especially with some of our kids stay free offers. It’s one of the main reasons Aussies can’t get enough and go back time and time again.
