TORSUS, manufacturer of the world’s toughest off-road buses, has partnered with leading conversion specialists to launch the PRAETORIAN LIBERRA and TERRASTORM CAMPER – two ultra-capable, go-anywhere overland vehicles designed for adventurers who demand more from the wild.
TORSUS vehicles are already famed for their ability to transport people and equipment across the most inhospitable terrain on Earth. The PRAETORIAN bus and the TERRASTORM minibus have built their formidable reputations on the unmatched support they provide personnel operating in the most challenging conditions imaginable. From remote forestry and mining applications, to search and rescue and disaster relief, the PRAETORIAN and the TERRASTORM effortlessly soak up whatever punishments are thrown at them.
Now, in collaboration with its Germany-based partner and distributor, ALL4BUS GmbH, TORSUS has facilitated the creation of the TORSUS PRAETORIAN LIBERRA, which completely redefines what is possible from a 4×4 overland and motorhome vehicle. Working with its partners DÄMMLER (motorhome construction) and FES Sachsen GmbH (special vehicle manufacturer), ALL4BUS has transformed the ultra-tough PRAETORIAN into a fully capable expedition motorhome designed for adventure without limits. TORSUS has also co-operated with EGOE, also based in Czech Republic, to transform the smaller, but equally tenacious TERRASTORM into the world’s most rugged and versatile camping vehicle, the TERRASTORM CAMPER.
Vakhtang Dzhukashvili, Founder and CEO of TORSUS, commented: “Whether it’s bringing medical aid or delivering disaster relief, no vehicle can match the capabilities of the PRAETORIAN and the TERRASTORM to reach destinations all others would consider unreachable. But now, it’s no longer just work crews and emergency personnel that we can offer that unmatched all terrain access to.
“In collaboration with our partners, TORSUS ushers in a new era of overlanding, camping and outdoor living for those possessed with a burning passion for exploration and the bravery to push the boundaries far beyond the beaten track. And nor is it simply a case of the PRAETORIAN and the TERRASTORM being able to transport overlanders and campers into the wild, which is something they were always able to do.
“With PRAETORIAN LIBERRA and TERRASTORM CAMPER, these vehicles allow people not just to reach remote locations, but to stay there comfortably as long as they wish. Whether soaking up solitude or navigating to the next destination, the adventure never ends.”
PRAETORIAN LIBERRA – EXTREME TOUGHNESS MEETS LUXURY
The TORSUS PRAETORIAN LIBERRA is based on the new third-generation PRAETORIAN TG3 heavy-duty off-road bus, which is built to operate at the tip of the spear, and master the world’s harshest terrain and toughest environments. Every technical detail of the PRAETORIAN TG3, including more than 50 all-new updates and options introduced in June 2024, has been carried over to ensure the LIBERRA retains the PRAETORIAN’s class-leading ability to traverse the most inhospitable terrain imaginable.
Based on an upgraded MAN Truck and Bus chassis and powertrain, the LIBERRA is fully warranted and serviceable by all MAN suppliers anywhere in the world. The combination of a 1,150Nm 6-cyl MAN diesel engine, heavy-duty 4×4 off-road drivetrain, 12-speed transmission and rugged all-terrain suspension delivers exceptional control, stability and safety across the roughest terrain.
The basis of the PRAETORIAN’s strength is its welded skeleton, which is made at the MAN plant in Starachowice, Poland. It consists of 780 components, including 273-metres of 1182kg steel profiles and 351kg of sheet metal parts, and receives a three-stage coating process for maximum corrosion protection.
This technology, unmatched in the off-road recreational vehicle sector, empowers overlanding enthusiasts with the freedom to roam across the wildest and most remote territories on the planet and enjoy experiences and sights that few will ever know.
Fittingly, the name LIBERRA, which is an amalgamation of ‘Liberty’ and ‘Terra’, translates as ‘Freedom on Earth’.
The first stage of the conversion process is carried out by manufacturing specialists FES Sachsen GmbH and approved TORSUS Germany distributor ALL4BUS GmbH, based in Coburg (Germany), who, in collaboration with TORSUS, have designed and developed a high-roof conversion that can be fitted new, or retrofitted to any PRAETORIAN model. The new roof shell raises the roof-section (400cm x 180cm) by 30cm, creating a new interior height of 220cm.
The new roof shell can then be coated in any colour of the customer’s choice and finished in a durable protective coating that TORSUS applies to every PRAETORIAN. The front of the high roof is complemented by two high-performance LED headlights for users to be able to clearly see ahead of them, even in the darkest and most remote areas on the planet.
Thomas Ebert, Managing Director of ALL4BUS GmbH, commented: “We are very proud of our longstanding relationship with TORSUS and delighted to be able to launch the PRAETORIAN LIBERRA on behalf of the company. The LIBERRA builds on the PRAETORIAN’s extraordinary off-road ability, and, with the conversion work carried out by ALL4BUS, DÄMMLER and FES Sachsen GmbH, plus in-depth collaboration with each individual customer, delivers the ultimate overlanding experience, unmatched by any competitor vehicle.”
Inside, the PRAETORIAN is transformed into a luxury lounge and living space with impeccable standards of design, quality and craftmanship courtesy of DÄMMLER, an RV conversion specialist based in Zwickau, Germany.
The range of options and potential configurations available to customers is endless. For fully self-sustained living, where the nearest shop may be three day’s drive away, the fully equipped kitchen area features a 90-litre refrigerator, a folding worktop, stainless steel sink, 4-burner induction hob and oven, in addition to drawers, 230-volt sockets and a 2 x 10-litre bin system. A high-pressure water pump feeds the shower, which is equipped with a stainless-steel tray and solid surface, and a toilet is of course also fitted.
Whatever the weather outside – from freezing cold to sweltering heat – the PRAETORIAN LIBERRA is engineered to keep occupants perfectly comfortable in all conditions. As standard, primary heating is provided by a Truma Combi 6DE diesel heater, with secondary heating from an Autotherm 4D diesel parking heater. A Truma Aventa Comfort 2.4kW roof-mounted air conditioner ensures the sleeping area, which accommodates up to four people, remains cool and restful in hot climates.
The living room area provides an extremely relaxing ambience, with luxury features such as a Marshall Stockwell II audio system and
dimmable LED lighting. Thanks to the LIBERRA’s large windows, inherited from the PRAETORIAN bus, the unique views available to occupants are little short of breathtaking. Occupants can enjoy full mountain panoramas while having breakfast or over a drink at sunset, in a manner simply not seen before with any other off-road recreational vehicle.
“Each bespoke TORSUS PRAETORIAN LIBERRA is built to individual customer requirements, with extensive customisation options available,” explains Ebert. “From heating and cooling systems to the interior layout, materials, appliances, sleeping arrangements, and power sources, every element can be tailored to suit the customer’s needs and lifestyle. The build process is highly collaborative – we work closely with each client to ensure their vehicle is perfectly suited to the way they want to travel. Larger fuel tanks and batteries, for example, can be included to increase range and operational self-sufficiency when overlanding across especially remote terrain, such as deserts and mountain ranges.”
ALL4BUS GmbH offers the TORSUS LIBERRA to customers globally, priced from €580,000. More details can be found at: www.all4bus.de and www.daemmler-mobile.de
TERRASTORM CAMPER – A NEW DIMENSION IN OUTDOOR EXPLORATION
Although smaller in size than the PRAETORIAN, the TERRASTORM minibus is equally tough and tenacious in character. TORSUS has taken everything it knows from the PRAETORIAN and distilled it into a smaller overall footprint, while ensuring the dependability and toughness remain. The TERRASTORM is based on a Volkswagen Crafter/MAN TGE 4Motion chassis and features a 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel engine offered in two power guises, 177PS (130kW) and 410Nm, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Tested to TORSUS tough specification, industry-leading off-road suspension ensures a comfortable and safe ride across all terrains. The combination of uprated off-road suspension and heavy-duty 17-inch BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A KO2 tyres gives the TERRASTORM a ground clearance of 250 mm, approach and departure angles of 26 degrees and 20 degrees, and a wading depth of 520 mm.
Equipped with extended breathers for the gearbox and differentials, the TERRASTORM Camper maintains reliable performance even when crossing deep water. Full underbody protection safeguards vital components from rocks and rough ground, while a powerful front winch ensures you can recover yourself or assist others when the path ahead disappears.
Utilising the base model’s exceptional off-road capabilities, combined with EGOE’s world leading, premium design camping accessories, the CAMPER opens up a new dimension in outdoor exploration, with its ability to effortlessly reach even the most remote camping destinations with ease. Inside, the spacious and comfortable interior of the vehicle provides ample living space for all the customer’s camping gear and supplies.
Based in Karlín, Czech Republic, EGOE specialises in the development of camper conversion kits and has developed a bespoke solution for the CAMPER. Based on the EGOE’s Nest technology, the unit is designed to fit perfectly into the back of the TERRASTORM and provides everything required for users to remain self-sufficient on ultra-remote camping trips.
The EGOE Nestbox slides out effortlessly beyond the TERRASTORM’s tailgate for ease of use. The unit includes a small refrigerator, a food-prep area, cooker, sink and storage drawers. Customers can also specify a folding rear mattress platform, which provides comfortable, warm, dry sleeping space for two people, with no need to erect a tent. A side awning, which can be attached to the side of CAMPER using suction cups, and a folding table and chairs, are also available to support all-weather alfresco dining.
Available through all TORSUS dealers worldwide, pricing for the TERRASTORM CAMPER starts at €130,000. More details can be found at: www.torsus.eu/en/terrastorm/
Whether it’s crossing deserts in the PRAETORIAN LIBERRA or reaching hidden campsites in the TERRASTORM CAMPER, TORSUS now makes it possible to venture deeper, stay longer, and experience the wild like never before.
