In a move that cements its place at the front of the luxury cruise pack, Oceania Cruises has officially taken delivery of its eighth ship, the aptly named Oceania Allura—and the announcement comes with a flourish worthy of a maître d’ flambéing Crêpes Suzette in first class.

Fresh out of the world-renowned Fincantieri Shipyard in Genoa, Italy, the sleek new vessel is already heralded as a small-ship sophistication masterpiece. With room for just 1,200 guests and service ratios that would make a Parisian butler blush, Allura is the second ship in Oceania’s Allura Class, following in the polished wake of her sister ship, Oceania Vista, which launched in 2023 to much fanfare and a healthy scattering of Michelin-starred adjectives.

But if you thought Oceania Cruises was merely coasting along, think again. In a show of confident forward-steering, the company has also confirmed orders for not one, not two, but four new Sonata Class ships. That’s right: four brand new floating cathedrals of calm, culinary excellence and curated experiences—because in Oceania’s world, more is never too much when it comes to refined indulgence.

“Our Bold Vision, Delivered”

“This isn’t just a ship,” said Jason Montague, the impressively titled Chief Luxury Officer at Oceania Cruises, during the delivery ceremony in Genoa. “Allura is our most innovative and luxurious ship to date. She represents our bold vision for a new generation of luxury travel experiences.”

Now, that’s no small claim in an industry where every other press release seems to announce the next “game-changing” cruise. But in the case of Oceania Cruises, it may well be justified.

Steering with both hands on the wheel of eloquence, Montague added that Allura’s heart beats to the rhythm of an extraordinary crew—laser-focused on providing personalised service, exquisite cuisine and immersive enrichment. And on that point, dear readers, the ship delivers in spades.

Finest Cuisine at Sea? You’d Better Believe It

Of course, it’s not all about brass banisters and monogrammed pillow mints. Oceania Cruises has long made its name on what it calls the “Finest Cuisine at Sea.” And with Allura, that tagline moves from marketing to manifesto.

“Oceania Cruises puts food at the heart of everything we do,” said Executive Culinary Director Chef Alexis Quaretti, who likely dreams in demi-glace. “Allura is the culmination of years of work from thousands of passionate people—from the designers and shipbuilders to the onboard team.”

From crêpes and carpaccio to wagyu and waffles, Allura offers more culinary destinations than a year’s worth of degustation menus. Among the new additions is Crêperie, a first for the fleet, serving authentic French crêpes, decadent Belgian waffles, and Italian ice cream sundaes that deserve their fan club.

Jacques Returns—With a Twist

Fans of Oceania’s signature French restaurant, Jacques, named for the cruise line’s founding Executive Culinary Director, Jacques Pépin, will be delighted to know the venue returns with revamped flair. Classic dishes such as duck à l’orange have been reimagined with Grand Marnier panache, and for those who fancy theatre with their tartare, tableside preparation of hand-cut beef is now a signature experience.

Not to be outdone, Red Ginger, the line’s pan-Asian favourite, now sports a splash of Nikkei fusion—a bold and exciting collision of Japanese and Peruvian flavours. Think tuna ceviche with leche de tigre, braised short rib lomo saltado, and soft-shell crab bao buns, all plated with precision and passion.

The Grand Dining Room has also undergone its own quiet revolution, debuting over 270 new recipes, including more than 30 breakfast variations on the ever-popular eggs Benedict. From Florentine to smoked salmon, you could eat around Allura one hollandaise at a time.

Wine, WiFi and Wits

What would a grand meal be without a grander pairing? Launching with Allura is the Gerard Bertrand Wine Pairing Luncheon—a sommelier-curated affair featuring exceptional wines matched to dishes that tease out every hidden nuance in the grape and the grain.

And because even the most elegant epicureans want to post their sunset Negronis on Instagram, Oceania has ensured Allura is equipped with Starlink WiFi and a brand-new LYNC Digital Centre. Located just steps from the ship’s showstopping new Library, the centre offers complimentary small-group classes on everything from smartphone photography to social media storytelling, led by Oceania’s expert Digital Concierges.

New Era, New Ships: Sonata Class Takes Centre Stage

As if unveiling a new ship weren’t enough, Montague used the occasion to confirm delivery of four more luxury vessels in the brand’s upcoming Sonata Class. Following the launch of Oceania Sonata in late 2027 and Oceania Arietta in 2029, two additional sister ships are now confirmed for delivery in 2032 and 2035.

“These ships mark the next phase in our evolution,” said Montague. “We’re proud to continue our innovation alongside Fincantieri, our trusted shipbuilding partner for nearly 20 years.”

The new Sonata Class ships will host around 1,390 guests each, with a gross tonnage of approximately 86,000, bringing a slightly larger footprint to the fleet while maintaining Oceania’s commitment to small-ship intimacy. In short, there is more space and more luxury, but no crowd.

Ship Stats with Style

For those who enjoy stats with their scones, here’s the digest:

  • Oceania Allura measures 804 feet long and 68,000 gross tons.

  • She accommodates 1,200 guests with a top-tier staff-to-guest ratio—two crew for every three passengers.

  • Half of her crew is dedicated to culinary operations alone.

  • The standard staterooms are the most spacious at sea, clocking in at more than 270 square feet.

  • Her Library, now with panoramic sea views, is located beside the Horizon Lounge on Deck 14. It resembles a modern equestrian den.

A Grand Entrance

Oceania Allura sets off on her maiden voyage from Trieste to Athens on 18 July 2025. Her inaugural season includes 26 voyages covering 92 destinations—stretching across the Mediterranean, Caribbean, and the picturesque coastlines of Canada and New England.

And because no luxury ship is truly launched without a bottle-smashing ceremony and a spot of showbiz, Allura will be officially christened in November 2025 at a glittering ceremony in Miami. Uniquely, she’ll be christened not by a single godmother, but by a constellation of Food & Wine magazine’s Best New Chefs alumni—reinforcing Oceania’s pledge that this is a ship where food takes centre stage.

Final Word: Classy, Culinary, and Completely Confident

With Allura now delivered and four more Sonata Class ships in the pipeline, Oceania Cruises isn’t just keeping pace with luxury cruising—it’s setting the tempo. As the line continues to blend high design with high dining and a healthy dash of digital savvy, it’s fair to say the future of small-ship cruising has never looked tastier—or more thrilling.

For travellers seeking refinement without the razzle-dazzle of the megaships, Oceania Cruises is charting a course that’s equal parts elegant, innovative and undeniably delicious.
