Hwa’s Gallery (Macau) presents a renowned photographic series by the legendary Japanese artist Hiroshi Sugimoto at the Lisboeta Macau H853 Art Space in May and June this year. The exhibition includes limited publications from the authoritative publisher Kyoto Shoin Co., Ltd., Gallery Koyanagi, Tokyo and the Mori Art Museum, Tokyo. Large-format color photographs from the OPTICKS series, released for the first time at the Kyoto City Kyocera Museum of Art’s opening commemorative exhibition, which are highly collectible will also be featured.
Beginning with the “Seascape” series created in 1980, it records the most elemental scene—the sky and sea. This ancient imagery connects people today with ancient times and reflects eternity. In the “Theater” series, an overexposed screen compresses a two-hour film into a beam of white light, encompassing both our conscious awareness and subconscious perceptions. The red, blue, and green tones of the “OPTICKS” series present tiny colored particles beneath the lens, showcasing light’s multifaceted nature through the prism. Hwa’s Gallery invites audiences to step into Hiroshi Sugimoto’s photographic world and awaken the collective memories that lie dormant within the images—memories related to the ancient, the ephemeral, and eternity.
