Air Canada - logoIn a modern nod to golden-age travel, with a decidedly Canadian twist, Air Canada has once again put the wheels in motion for its partnership with The Landline Company, extending its luxurious land-to-air motorcoach service linking Southern Ontario’s regional airports with Toronto Pearson.

Launched just a year ago as a modest pilot program, the initiative has now firmly found its feet, transporting passengers in style from John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport and Region of Waterloo International Airport straight to the Air Canada network’s bustling hub at Toronto Pearson International Airport.

“Air Canada has been very pleased with the response to this innovative initiative,” said Ranbir Singh, Director of Regional Airlines and Markets at Air Canada. “The results show our multimodal strategy is a popular and effective means to increase connectivity within our network while offering customers additional, convenient travel options.”

With engines humming and seat belts fastened, the airline is not just continuing the service—it’s ramping things up.

Next Stop: Airside Integration and National Expansion

Singh explains that the next phase involves working with The Landline Company to fine-tune the operation with an eye toward direct airside-to-airside transfers—a development that would allow travellers to bypass the terminal entirely, stepping directly from coach to gate. Of course, such a leap requires regulatory approval, but the vision is unmistakably clear: to blur the lines between road and sky in one seamless journey.

And it doesn’t stop in Southern Ontario.

“With our extended partnership,” Singh continued, “we’re looking at introducing this model in other parts of Canada as well. The demand is there, and the technology is catching up. It’s the right time.”

Wi-Fi, Wide Seats and Winning Smiles: Coach Travel, Reimagined

The coaches, built proudly in Quebec by renowned manufacturer Prevost, are first-class on four wheels. Think plush leather seats, complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi, charging ports galore, and complete accessibility for passengers with reduced mobility.

Nick Johnson, Vice President of Commercial at The Landline Company, says the goal is to make regional travel tolerable and desirable.

“We’re refining our product, and next week we’re rolling out new, fast, free Wi-Fi so customers can enjoy streaming and gaming on their personal devices,” Johnson noted. “Together with Air Canada, our airport partners and regulators, we’re building an innovative, cost-effective solution that makes regional travel more efficient and enjoyable.”

From Tarmac to Terminal: Regional Airports Join the Fast Track

Karen Redman, Chair of the Region of Waterloo, was quick to commend the partnership. “This innovative service has opened up a world of opportunities for our passengers by providing seamless connectivity to a wide range of Canadian and international destinations. Global connectivity is key, and we are committed to working together to support the evolution of the service in Waterloo Region.”

At Hamilton International, Ed Ratuski, the airport’s Executive Managing Director, enthusiastically echoed the sentiment. “We’ve witnessed firsthand how this seamless integration between luxury motorcoach service and air travel has improved the passenger journey. This service enhances Hamilton’s role as a key regional gateway.”

More Than Just a Ride: Benefits That Stack Up

For Air Canada passengers departing from Waterloo or Hamilton, the journey begins well before boarding. Travellers can check in and print boarding passes and bag tags at their regional departure point. Once aboard, they’re treated not just to a luxury ride but all the same perks as flying from a major hub: Aeroplan points, disruption protection, and baggage handling straight through to the final destination.

And it’s not a one-off either—the coaches run multiple daily round trips, delivering convenience, comfort, and connection.

It’s a gentle reminder that innovation doesn’t always mean digital apps or space-age jets. Sometimes, it means going back to basics—just doing them better. A reclining leather seat, strong Wi-Fi, and the ability to glide from Waterloo to the world without a hitch? That’s the kind of Canadian travel solution that makes sense.

The Road Ahead

As Air Canada and Landline fine-tune their plans for a future with more seamless regional-to-global connections, the success of this pilot is now the bedrock for a broader rollout.

If approved, the upcoming airside-to-airside transfer model will set a new standard in Canadian travel, blending convenience, comfort, and clever thinking into a truly multimodal marvel.

Until then, passengers in Hamilton and Waterloo can continue to expect a first-class journey, on the ground and in the air.
