Marriott International -LogoWestern Sydney’s reputation as Sydney’s younger sibling is fast fading, especially now that Marriott International has finally said “I do” to Parramatta. In a deal inked with developer JQZ, the global hospitality giant is set to open the Sydney Marriott Hotel Parramatta by mid-2027—and it’s no ordinary affair.

This isn’t just another hotel launch—it’s Marriott putting a diamond ring on Western Sydney’s finger.

Perched on Church Street—the local strip quickly becoming a who’s who of high-rise ambition—the 279-room premium hotel will become the heart of a sprawling mixed-use precinct that’s already climbing skyward. For Marriott, it marks the fifth outing for its flagship brand in Australia and just the second in New South Wales.

“This isn’t just a brand expansion,” said Richard Crawford, Marriott International’s Vice President of Developments for ANZP, looking every bit the proud parent. “Parramatta is blossoming—economically, culturally, and socially. This is Sydney’s second CBD, and it deserves world-class hospitality to match.”

Indeed, Parramatta’s rise has been anything but quiet. With the WestConnex, Parramatta Light Rail, Metro West line and the city’s proximity to the new Western Sydney Airport, this once-sleepy outpost is now a hotspot of investment and infrastructure. Locals who once had to trek to the eastern suburbs for luxury now have it arriving on their doorstep.

So, what’s on the menu at this shiny new jewel? Think an M Club Lounge for business travellers who mean business, a restaurant and café to satisfy both locals and loyal Bonvoy members, a rooftop pool with bar for the cocktail-inclined, and enough function space to host everything from boardroom summits to lavish receptions.

It’s a sharp new chapter for JQZ, too. “This is a profound milestone for us,” said JQZ Chairman Jianqiu Zhang. “Marriott’s commitment to excellence mirrors our values—spaces that foster connection, service, and a genuine sense of belonging. This hotel puts Parramatta on the global map, and frankly, it’s about time.”

The hotel will be the anchor of a larger ecosystem of residences, shops, and commercial tenancies—because let’s face it, luxury doesn’t like to be lonely.

Tristan Cooper, Marriott’s Director of Hotel Development for ANZP, was equally upbeat. “We’re not just opening a hotel—we’re helping shape a city. Partnering with JQZ on a project of this scale is thrilling. We’re ready to add a touch of Marriott magic to the Parramatta skyline.”

What this announcement really signals is that big brands are finally treating Western Sydney as more than a footnote. The old Sydney-centric mindset is being rewritten, one luxury tower at a time.

When the Sydney Marriott Hotel Parramatta opens in 2027, it won’t just offer five-star comfort—it will serve as a sparkling reminder that Parramatta has outgrown its underdog reputation. From colonial fringe to cosmopolitan core, it’s a city that’s ready for its moment.

In a landscape where prestige often plays favourites, this move feels like overdue recognition. Or as one local put it, “Finally, we get our own fancy rooftop bar. And we don’t even have to cross the bridge.”

It’s Marriott. It’s Parramatta. And it’s a match made in Western Sydney heaven.
