Spread the love

DASH, a Hong Kong-based digital lifestyle platform dedicated to creating a connected ecosystem for customers and merchants, has launched its first service — DASH Taxi. Designed to eliminate disputes and enhance transparency in the taxi-hailing industry, the pioneering taxi-hailing service aims to elevate service quality and improve driver welfare by balancing the needs of both sides.

Guided by the company motto, ‘think further, go beyond,’ DASH Taxi is on a mission to offer high-quality and reliable rides. With key features including meter-connected digital payment systems, personalized event suggestions and dedicated human-led customer services, it hopes to transform how Hong Kongers think and feel about taxis. To further incentivize quality service, DASH Taxi does not charge its drivers commission and introduces a “whitelist” feature to allow riders to rebook their favorite drivers, enabling them to boost their earnings.

Since its soft launch in March, DASH Taxi has onboarded more than 4,000 drivers and completed 500+ rides in Lantau Island. DASH Taxi is the first product within DASH’s connected ecosystem, which will integrate ride-hailing, events, food and beverage, and retail into one platform.

Hong Kongers demand for a new taxi-hailing service that balances the needs of riders and drivers

In recent years, the Hong Kong taxi industry has faced challenges related to service quality and payment methods. As a homegrown startup, DASH Taxi is well aware of the local nuances and needs of riders and drivers. DASH‘s State of Hong Kong’s Taxi Industry 2025 report, conducted with Rakuten Insights and an internal driver survey, reveals 89% of drivers consider it crucial to avoid conflicts with riders. They recognize that a dispute-free ride can significantly elevate experiences for both riders and drivers. Meanwhile, surveyed riders rank conflict-free trips as the top priority for improving taxi-hailing services.

Despite the emergence of voices advocating for digitization and better taxi services, a lack of necessary support has left the industry struggling to adapt. Only 1% of drivers believe that existing ride-hailing platforms are meeting the needs of riders and drivers equally. In fact, 79% indicate a strong desire for a new taxi-hailing app that can balance the needs of both sides.

Fairness and transparent pricing are a top priority for both riders and drivers too – 69% of drivers identify high commission fees on existing taxi-hailing apps as their biggest challenge, directly impacting their earnings. 58% of riders consider transparent pricing as the most important factor for a satisfying ride experience with personalized rides and digital payments ranking among top 3 priorities. More so, 93% of drivers indicate that they would be willing to implement digital payment methods if they are provided with proper support and training, showing a desire to meet passenger needs for cashless options.

Drivers are showcasing openness to embracing new digital solutions, with a majority expressing strong support for digital payments and fairer commission structures, while riders are seeking greater transparency and convenience.

Jason Ma, Co-Founder and Managing Director of DASH, said: “It is clear that Hong Kongers are longing for a new taxi-hailing service that can better meet the needs of riders and drivers.”

“Our focus on taxi-hailing as our inaugural service stems from its pivotal role in steering the city towards a cashless future. Taxis are also the first and last mile of a lot of Hong Kongers’ daily commutes, even shaping the way they start and conclude their day. As a locally born-and-bred company, we have a deep personal connection to the industry. We are enthusiastic for Hong Konger to rediscover their love for taxis through our solutions and envision a landscape where Hong Kong’s transportation sector thrives with enhanced intelligence and connectivity,” adds Jason.

Pushing the taxi industry forward with support of like-minded leaders

By digitising the entire taxi experience from booking to payments, DASH is driving the digital transformation of sectors that have been left behind as the city advances its cashless economy and smart city goals – especially taxi drivers and small merchants.

According to the same survey, there is major consensus among riders (60%) that the taxi industry is an important contributor to Hong Kong’s economy. It signals a strong need for a new taxi-hailing service that not only transforms the industry but brings together riders, drivers, and other stakeholders. With this in mind, DASH Taxi is collaborating with leading taxi partners, including SynCab, Hang On Motors, Hung Yat Motors, Yick Fung Motors among others.

Michael Chan, Co-Founder of DASH, said: “It’s such a profound milestone for DASH as we witness the realization of our vision for a better-connected city, with the launch of our very first product. We are not just supporting the digitalization of Hong Kong’s mobility landscape, but also propelling the city toward a cashless economy. At DASH, we are all about creating a unified digital lifestyle platform, where your daily essentials can seamlessly connect, offering customers and merchants a more convenient and personalized experience, much like visiting your favourite local hang-outs.”

As the flagship launch of DASH, DASH Taxi bridges the taxi industry to other key sectors, including retail, hospitality, and events, transforming taxi rides into opportunities for personalised, high-quality services.
