Thai AirAsia achieves another breakthrough in its pursuit to continue providing seamless connectivity across Asia by expanding its international network under the Fifth Freedom Right by launching its latest route connecting Bangkok (Don Mueang), Hong Kong and Okinawa, Japan.
This marks the first time Thai AirAsia is operating a Fifth Freedom service via Hong Kong. The new service will operate daily (7 flights per week), flying directly from Don Mueang, Bangkok, with a short stopover in Hong Kong to pick up and drop off passengers before heading to Okinawa, Japan.
The new route is now open for booking, with the inaugural flight set to take off 1 June 2025. To celebrate the launch, special promotional fares are up for grabs from as low as THB 4290 one way. Promo fares are available exclusively on AirAsia MOVE app and airasia.com from now until 20 April 2025, for travel between 1 June and 25 October 2025.
This new service enhances convenience for travelers between Bangkok, Hong Kong and Okinawa, complementing the airline’s existing direct flights from Bangkok to Hong Kong and Okinawa, as well as its Taipei–Okinawa leg that is part of another Fifth Freedom route also originating from Bangkok.
Mr. Santisuk Klongchaiya, Chief Executive Officer of Thai AirAsia, said: “I am truly excited and proud over this milestone. This new route marks Thai AirAsia’s groundbreaking service with a stopover in Hong Kong, a key strategic market and global financial hub.
“Our objective is to serve the continuously increasing travel demand between Hong Kong and Japan as strongly indicated by our market research. Notably, Okinawa ranks among the Top 5 most visited Japanese cities by Hong Kong tourists. With a flight time of approximately 2.5 hours, this short-haul route offers a convenient short getaway or year-round beach retreat, making it an attractive option for travelers.
“Expanding our route network through Fifth Freedom rights is a key strategy for growth and increasing regional connectivity across Asia. Following our success last year connecting Japan via Taipei and Kaohsiung, we are now building on that momentum with Hong Kong as our latest transit point. We are confident that this route will receive strong support from the market,” Mr. Santisuk added.
Ranked among the Top 5 Most Punctual Airlines in Asia-Pacific by Cirium and holding a perfect 7/7 Safety Rating from AirlineRatings.com, AirAsia ensures every flight meets the highest standards of timeliness and safety so that guests can travel conveniently, comfortably and with peace of mind.
