The Tasman, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Hobart has launched The Keys, a selection of curated excursions that invite guests to dig a little deeper into the destination. Orchestrated by The Tasman’s Les Clefs d’Or Golden Keys Concierge and leveraging the island’s community connectedness, The Keys grants unprecedented access to rare and captivating experiences that are unique to Tasmania.
Launching with three unique experiences, The Keys have been crafted in thoughtful partnership with knowledgeable and passionate local operators. Each experience is tailored to the luxury traveller and available exclusively to guests of The Tasman.
Carolyn Smith, General Manager at The Tasman, says “One of the luxuries of travel is its transformative nature – it has the capacity to widen perspective, spark connection (and reconnection), or catalyse personal growth.
“The Tasman’s guests, and indeed many visitors to Tasmania, are discerning global travellers who are seeking this brand of enrichment that is individualised and native to the destination.”
It is this focus on enriching guest journeys of and in Tasmania that contributed to The Tasman’s selection in the World’s 50 Best Hotels in 2024.
The first set of Keys ignites all senses, blending adventure, wellness, and discovery. Each experience, be it a cold-water plunge on the mountain, a native botanical scent masterclass, or mountain biking through vineyards, is underpinned by The Tasman’s unwavering commitment to showcasing the best of Tasmania.
James Nobleza, The Tasman Hotel Les Clefs d’Or Concierge, says: “We encourage guests to venture out and explore, knowing they’ll be richly rewarded for it. Each day we have the honour of seeing their joy as they delve into the culture, natural wonders and incredible produce. The Keys takes this to another level, allowing our guests hands-on experiences that they would not otherwise be able to enjoy.”
This wellness experience encourages guests to ignite their senses in the Tassie wilds as they experience kunanyi/Mount Wellington with Wild Wellness. On this guided journey guests will walk, pause and meditate together, followed by an invigorating plunge into crystal waters from kunanyi’s alpine plateau. The experience will culminate with toasty hot drinks and local treats, as the experience finishes with a science-backed journalling session.
Meadowbank with Meadowbank MTB
An hour west of Hobart alongside the Derwent River is Lake Meadowbank, where a winding dirt track gives way to a hidden valley and vineyard. Here, adventurers will traverse professionally designed and built private mountain bike trails – some easy access to make even a novice feel confident and safe, others with enough speed, flow and vertical descent to set off an adrenaline rush. After a day on the track, guests will enjoy wine and lunch on the picturesque Meadowbank property.
Reminiscent with The Raconteur
The Raconteur, our scent sommelier, takes guests on a guided masterclass of Tasmania’s native flora and the science of the strongest human sense. Over Tasmanian wine and cheese, guests will craft their own scent from locally harvested botanicals and distil it into a candle to take home, reigniting memories of Tasmania every time they light its wick.
For leisure travellers, each experience takes place in a small group setting, must accompany a stay at The Tasman, and is available by 14 days advance appointment.
The first set of keys is scalable for MICE and incentive groups accommodating up to 20 guests at a time.
Located on Hobart’s iconic waterfront, The Tasman embraces the history of the city with a distinct architectural experience that blends the site’s legacy with a striking modern vision. The 152-room hotel features artfully restored, history-filled hallways of the original 1840s heritage building, combined with the understated luxury of the Art Deco building and a modern, glass ensconced Pavilion building.
Beyond the historic facade, hospitality offerings Peppina, the signature restaurant helmed by renowned chef Massimo Mele, and Mary Mary, an intimate and sophisticated cocktail bar, infuse fresh Tasmanian produce into every element of their menus.
Further experiences at the hotel include exceptional Sommelier-guided wine and whisky tastings in The Tasman’s intimate heritage cellar door. Beyond the cellar, guests can also immerse themselves in complimentary tours that bring to life the building’s captivating history and age-old craftsmanship – where every stone and story etched into the hotel’s walls reveals Hobart’s fascinating heritage.
