Intrepid Indonesia DMC partners with Scholar of SustenanceIntrepid Travel announces new partner in Indonesia, Scholar of Sustenance (SOS Indonesia) a leading non-profit organisation dedicated to reducing food waste and addressing hunger. Through this collaboration, supported by The Intrepid Foundation, the two organisations will work together to drive meaningful change in Indonesia.
SOS Indonesia, founded in 2016, operates in high-tourism areas of Bali, rescuing surplus food from hotels, supermarkets, bakeries, farms, and manufacturers. Using motorcycles and refrigerated trucks, they redistribute edible surplus to those in need. In 2023, they expanded to Jakarta, aiming to partner with more businesses to combat food waste on a larger scale.
Through this partnership, Intrepid DMC Indonesia will engage travellers and its global network to raise awareness about food waste and hunger while supporting fundraising efforts to expand SOS Indonesia’s impact. Intrepid’s destination management companies (DMCs) carefully select The Intrepid Foundation’s partners, ensuring donations directly support organisations making a meaningful impact. As locally run and staffed businesses, these DMCs have a deep understanding of their communities and the role tourism can play in supporting them. Their local insight helps create a balanced approach—maximising tourism’s benefits while addressing its challenges.
Ravindra Singh, General Manager, Intrepid DMC Indonesia: “As a travel company, we see firsthand how tourism impacts local communities. Partnering with SOS Indonesia means we can help turn leftover food into meals for those who need them. It’s a simple idea but one that makes a real difference.”
Biheng Zhang, General Manager, The Intrepid Foundation: “No one should go hungry while perfectly good food is wasted. SOS Indonesia is tackling this head-on, and we’re proud to support them. This is about more than redistribution, it’s about changing how we think about waste and ensuring more people get the meals they need.”
Bo H Holmgreen, Founder & CEO, SOS Indonesia: “We’ve distributed over 65 million meals, rescued 15 million tonnes of food, and prevented 40 million tonnes of CO2 emissions. Together, we can transform waste into hope, ensuring surplus food feeds people, not landfills.”
As part of Intrepid Travel Group, Intrepid DMC Indonesia is committed to responsible, immersive, and sustainable tourism. By partnering with SOS Indonesia, it reinforces its mission to uplift communities while creating a more sustainable future.
