More than 1,000 people are expected to experience a taste of Tokyo at the Japan StrEat Party at the Brisbane Showgrounds from this Friday.

The three-day event (Friday 21 to Sunday 23 March) at Alexandria Park will showcase Japanese food, beverages and culture, with a packed program of music, dance performances, market stalls and workshops.

Attendees can eat their way across Japan, with an incredible selection of traditional dishes including yakisoba, yakitori, gyoza, ramen, bao, karaage and ikayaki, plus Japanese beer and sake.

There will also be an exciting line-up of entertainment, featuring DJ KODA from Byron Bay bringing high-energy house music to the stage and KIZUNA TAIKO blending martial arts-inspired stances with synchronised drum rhythms.

The family-friendly event also offers plenty for the kids, including an origami folding booth, paper airplane competitions and face painting, plus there’s a traditional Japanese dyeing technique workshop for all ages.

Brisbane Showgrounds General Manager of Venue Sales and Marketing Jago Coyle said they were looking forward to welcoming the event to the Brisbane Showgrounds for the first time.

“We’re thrilled to host an event that brings together food, music and family fun, celebrating Japanese culture right here in Brisbane,” he said.

Entry to the event is FREE. Gates open from 4pm to 10pm Friday, and 11am to 10pm Saturday and Sunday.

The Brisbane Showgrounds precinct is located 1.5km from Brisbane’s CBD and is Queensland’s largest indoor/outdoor events site. Visit www.brisbaneshowgrounds.com.au
