Grand Hyatt Melbourne is proud to announce its certification by EarthCheck, the world’s leading scientific benchmarking and certification for sustainable tourism.
This incredible milestone makes Grand Hyatt Melbourne the first Hyatt hotel in Australia to achieve the EarthCheck Silver certification, reinforcing the hotel’s commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainability hospitality practices.
EarthCheck certification is awarded following a rigorous auditing process, assessing a property’s sustainability efforts across key areas such as energy and water consumption, waste management, and community engagement.
As part of its ongoing sustainability efforts, Grand Hyatt Melbourne’s operational team has set up rigorous processes to track and manage the hotel’s environmental performance through Hyatt EcoTrack, Hyatt’s global environmental sustainability software.
In guest rooms, plastic toothbrushes and combs have been replaced with ones made from biodegradable corn starch and guest slippers no longer come in plastic wrapping. Used hand soap is sent to the Soap Aid program, where it is recycled into new soap bars and distributed to communities facing hygiene challenges.
Grand Hyatt Melbourne’s culinary team collaborates with suppliers to increase responsible sourcing of products and services, striving to address impact areas such as climate change, deforestation, human rights, waste, public health, resource scarcity, biodiversity, and animal welfare. This includes a partnership with Bardee, an innovative food waste management company that transforms food waste into sustainable products, further minimising the hotel’s environmental impact.
Additionally, Grand Hyatt Melbourne sponsors two Melbourne rescue beehives to support bee preservation in Victoria.
“We are incredibly proud to be the first Hyatt hotel in Australia to achieve EarthCheck certification. This recognition is a testament to our ongoing commitment to sustainability and responsible tourism. At Grand Hyatt Melbourne, we believe in taking meaningful steps to reduce our environmental footprint while continuing to provide exceptional experiences for our guests,” said Fredrick Arul, General Manager of Grand Hyatt Melbourne.
