Tourism Solomons - LogoThe Solomon Islands’ tourism sector is set to soar as the government strengthens collaboration between public and private stakeholders. The government aims for a landmark goal of 100,000 visitor arrivals by 2035. Minister for Culture & Tourism, Hon. Choylin Yim Douglas, reaffirmed this ambitious vision during her keynote address at the prestigious ‘Tourism In Focus’ conference in Honiara this week.

A Bold Commitment to Growth

Speaking to an audience of over 150 key tourism representatives at the Solomon Kintano Mendana Hotel, Minister Yim Douglas emphasized the critical role of unity in fostering sustainable industry growth. Acknowledging the resilience and dedication of those within the sector, she lauded the collective efforts that have propelled the Solomon Islands onto the global tourism stage.

“Our government recognizes the immense potential of tourism to stimulate economic growth, create meaningful jobs, and uplift livelihoods across our nation,” Minister Yim Douglas stated.

As a demonstration of this commitment, the government has significantly increased budget allocations for tourism this year. This enhanced funding will drive strategic initiatives to bolster infrastructure, enhance accommodations, and intensify global marketing efforts.

Strategic Investments & Infrastructure Development

The government has introduced comprehensive policies focused on product diversification, capacity building, and international collaboration to achieve the nation’s ambitious tourism targets.

“The government is focused on capacity building, training, and forging strategic partnerships with local and international stakeholders,” the Minister remarked. “It requires a collective effort—a partnership between the public and private sectors, with each of us playing our part.”

Among the primary areas of focus are:

  • Investment in Infrastructure: Enhancing roads, transport, and hospitality facilities to improve visitor experiences.
  • Accommodation Expansion: Encouraging local and international investors to develop eco-friendly and culturally immersive lodging options.
  • Marketing & Promotion: Aggressive digital and traditional media campaigns to showcase the Solomon Islands as a must-visit destination.
  • Tourism Diversification: Developing niche sectors such as adventure tourism, cultural tourism, and marine conservation-focused travel.

A Collaborative Approach to Success

Minister Yim Douglas underscored the importance of collaboration, urging businesses, tour operators, and investors to contribute to the nation’s tourism trajectory actively. “Through continued collaboration, we can build a sustainable future for the Solomon Islands’ tourism industry. Let’s continue to work together, with passion and perseverance, to achieve these goals and create lasting positive change.”

The conference, themed ‘Expanding The Market Approach,’ saw an impressive lineup of industry leaders and experts sharing insights on the sector’s potential.
