Tourism FIJI - LogoFiji made history in 2024, marking its most successful year in tourism with an astounding milestone of welcoming over one million visitors. This record-breaking achievement highlights the Pacific nation’s growing appeal as a global travel destination. It underscores its strong performance across various sectors, including air travel, cruises, digital marketing, and international events.

Unprecedented Visitor Numbers: A Testament to Fiji’s Appeal

Fiji welcomed 982,938 tourists via air travel and an additional 81,854 cruise passengers in 2024, reflecting a 5.7% year-on-year increase. This extraordinary achievement surpassed Tourism Fiji’s ambitious target of 966,930 visitors and set a new benchmark for the region.

Australia emerged as a key market, contributing a 4.8% increase in visitors and holding an impressive 46% share of Fiji’s tourism market. The robust numbers from Australia underline the nation’s appeal to travellers seeking tropical getaways.

Brent Hill, CEO of Tourism Fiji, shared his enthusiasm: “We are thrilled to have achieved such a significant milestone. This record reflects the growing global admiration for Fiji’s stunning landscapes, vibrant culture, and exceptional hospitality. However, sustainability remains at the core of our growth strategy. Our focus is on attracting high-value tourists who contribute meaningfully to the local economy.”

Cruise Tourism’s Rising Tide

The cruise sector was pivotal in driving Fiji’s economic success, with local communities and businesses benefiting significantly. Industry collaborations promise even more significant gains in 2025, reinforcing Fiji’s position as a premier cruise destination.

Digital Marketing Triumphs

Tourism Fiji also celebrated unparalleled success in digital marketing throughout 2024. The organization’s social media platforms reached over one million followers, and its website recorded 8.93 million sessions—a staggering 313% increase compared to the previous year. The launch of new brand videos amassed over two million views on YouTube within a month, demonstrating the effectiveness of Fiji’s refreshed branding strategy.

These achievements were recognized at the Mumbrella Travel Marketing Summit 2024, where Tourism Fiji won the ‘Best Use of Native or Content Marketing’ award for its collaboration with GoPro. Additionally, the organization earned a Silver Award at the Australian Effie Awards for its ‘Where Happiness Comes Naturally’ campaign.

High-Profile Events Elevate Fiji’s Global Standing

Fiji’s reputation as a hub for international events was bolstered by the return of the Corona World Surf League (WSL) Fiji Pro, the Spartan Fiji Trifecta, and the first-ever National Rugby League (NRL) match held in the country. These events attracted global audiences and showcased Fiji as a vibrant destination for sports tourism.

The nation’s hosting of the WSL Finals in 2025 is expected to provide even greater international visibility.

These honours further solidify Fiji’s position as a top-tier travel destination.
