Artist Kim Hankyul and art educator Stephanie Serrano Sundby have been chosen to take part in the fifth edition of SOLO OSLO. This initiative helps to strengthen Oslo’s art scene by giving newly established artists and art educators an opportunity to develop their practice and reach a wider and more diverse audience.
A solo exhibition at a museum such as MUNCH represents a major leap forward in an artist’s career. It can give an artist increased professional support, greater visibility and the possibility of an international career. For an art educator, the programme provides a unique platform for exploring new working methods and to create engaging experiences for specific audience segments.
This year’s selection
Kim Hankyul (b. 1990 in Busan, South Korea) is known for his atmospheric installations combining sound, mechanics and mythology. His earlier works have been exhibited at such renowned institutions as Kunstnerforbundet in Oslo, Entree in Bergen, Nitja in Lillestrøm and Oslo Kunstforening. As key factors in their decision, the jury singled out Hankyul’s ability to ‘take over the space’ and his reflections on development and collaboration. His solo exhibition at MUNCH will open in March 2026.
In her education project, Stephanie Serrano Sundby (b. 1992 in Oslo) aims to create inclusive meeting points for neurodivergent young adults. She uses a participant-based approach rooted in the principle of ‘nothing for us without us’. The jury praised Sundby for her deep understanding of relevant theories and methods, as well as her abillity to open the artistic space to many through an approach that stays close to the work.
