Dream Yacht Worldwide (DYW), a leader in sea-based vacations making sailing accessible to all, has shared its key insights, data and trends from 2024 sailings, plus predictions for the new year based on this year’s bookings.
The company, which began in 2000, supports sailing opportunities for all travelers – from advanced sailors, to individuals who have never sailed. DYW operates bases in over 30+ global destinations, offering options that range from fully-crewed cabin charters to bareboat opportunities. Here’s an overview of Dream Yacht’s key trends and forecasts from this past year:
The early bird gets the savings
Dream Yacht Worldwide has witnessed a resurgence in early bookings, potentially due to travelers taking advantage of advanced offers and savings, but also the option to select the preferred yacht and itinerary of choice before it becomes unavailable. This fall, the company has seen a 108% increase in bookings year on year ahead for summer 2025 (May and June vacations).
“One of the most notable trends we have seen this past year is the return of early trip planning. Travelers are once again booking their sailing adventures earlier, eager to secure their dream vacations and avoid last-minute rushes,” shared Loïc Bonnet, President, Dream Yacht Worldwide. “This proactive approach not only allows for a larger selection of yachts and itineraries but also enhances the overall travel experience and oftentimes travelers can take advantage of early-bird savings.”
Americans prefer short-haul sailing vacations
The Caribbean and the Bahamas continue to be Dream Yacht Worldwide’s top sailing destination for Americans – 73% of U.S.-based clients book this region, but there has also been increased interest in St. Martin with bookings up 23% year-over-year based on bookings made for 2025 in 2024 vs. bookings made in 2023 for 2024.
“The allure of crystal-clear waters without having to travel too far draws U.S. travelers to these regions,” said Bonnet.
However, French Polynesia, Thailand and Seychelles aren’t too far behind.
While the Caribbean is easily accessible for many Americans, sailing enthusiasts and travelers who have explored these beautiful regions are also looking beyond the Caribbean for their next adventure.
Dream Yacht Worldwide’s French Polynesia, Thailand, and Seychelles itineraries are emerging as popular destinations for sailing vacations. DYW’s bookings for Thailand have more than doubled based on bookings made for 2025 in 2024 vs bookings made in 2023 for 2024. Seychelles bookings are up 240% and French Polynesia is up 10%.
“These beautiful destinations offer diverse cultures, stunning landscapes, and unparalleled sailing experiences with amazing itineraries to explore, making them ideal for travelers seeking to broaden their horizons and travel experiences,” shared Bonnet. “Dream Yacht Worldwide began in Seychelles.”
Cabin Charters are on the rise: Perfect for Couple Travel or Solo Travel
Dream Yacht’s cabin charter bookings made for 2025 in 2024 vs bookings made in 2023 for 2024 are up 15% — there has especially been in uptick in cabin bookings for Thailand and the Seychelles for U.S. travelers.
Dream Yacht’s by-the-cabin charters are organized sailing vacation packages with set itineraries, full board meals and optional excursions — a great option for couples for who don’t necessarily desire or need a whole yacht or a great opportunity for solo travelers to join like-minded adventurers aboard a shared yacht. Cabin charters provide the opportunity to explore beautiful destinations without the need for any sailing experience or a large group of friends to share the cost of renting a yacht, making sailing accessible, more affordable, and enjoyable for everyone.
Sober Sailing and Dry January Trend
While Dream Yacht doesn’t offer dedicated “Sober October” or “Dry January” offerings, sailing is great travel option to embrace “sober traveling” – more than just a trend. Many travelers are opting for personalized sailing vacations where they can enjoy a vacation at sea while focusing on wellness and relaxation, avoiding alcohol and over-indulging. An opportunity to truly disconnect.
