Renowned Australian personalities, Rebecca Gibney and Cameron Daddo, discovered the iconic and lesser-known side of America’s Capital, Washington, DC during filming recently for popular travel television show, Luxury Escapes.
Rebecca and Cameron, both first-time visitors to Washington, DC, explored the city with fresh eyes, taking in the city’s iconic monuments, memorials and famed cultural landmarks including The White House, National Mall and Smithsonian Museums. They also explored beyond the political city’s polished landscape, venturing into the heart of its neighbourhoods to discover a cultural diversity and incredible culinary scene.
During the episode, Rebecca and Cameron encounter many unexpected moments and describe DC as “dripping with history” to experience a “once in a lifetime Luxury Escape” as they “live like kings and queens in the land of presidents.”
Washington, DC experiences featured in the Luxury Escapes episode include accommodation at both The Royal Sonesta in Capitol Hill and Dupont Circle Hotel, a visit to the newly-opened The People’s House (an interactive replica of The White House), dining at Bistro Du Jour and multi-Michelin-awarded Jônt, neighbourhood wanderings in Georgetown and Dupont Circle, a Leonardo Da Vinci appointment at the National Gallery of Art, garden ramblings in the grounds of Hillwood Estate, Museum and Gardens, and not forgetting a must-visit stop at Ben’s Chilli Bowl revered by everyone from the Obamas to Anthony Bourdain and many other high-profile cultural personalities since the venue’s inception in 1958.
This special DC-themed TV episode is one element of a broader 360-degree campaign between Luxury Escapes and Destination DC (DDC). The campaign includes a variety of complementary tactical consumer offers to be promoted in the episode and online, to entice audiences – including family and mature travellers, alongside savvy under 45 year old travellers – to book a Washington, DC adventure in 2025.
This partnership highlights Destination DC’s commitment to showcasing the city as a premier travel destination to the Australian market. The episode will highlight DC’s status as a dynamic, inclusive, and event-packed city – particularly timely with 2025 shaping up to be a monumental year. The city will proudly host WorldPride in 2025, a global celebration of LGBTQ+ rights, alongside other major events, festivals, and conventions that make it an unmissable destination for diverse travellers.
Destination DC Australia and New Zealand Director, Corey Marshall, shared his excitement about the partnership: “We love to engage travellers who are eager for extraordinary experiences, and through our partnership with Luxury Escapes, challenge the current perception of Washington, DC as a political city that is only known for its iconic museums and monuments.”
“Rebecca and Cameron, both first time travellers to DC, were really able to scratch the surface of DC and discover the city’s cultural brilliance, vibrant neighbourhoods and impeccable dining scene from Michelin-awarded restaurants to impressive neighbourhood eateries. As we gear up for an incredible year in 2025, we’re inviting travel advisors to tune in, and watch Rebecca and Cameron capture the true essence of Washington, DC,” said Corey.
