WTAAA - LOGOThe World Travel Agents Associations Alliance (WTAAA) has announced a visionary strategy for 2025 to elevate traveler rights while empowering the global travel advisory community. Unveiled during its recent General Assembly and Board Meeting in Athens, Greece, the new initiatives reflect a commitment to transforming the travel experience through transparency, fairness, and innovation.

As the voice of travel agents worldwide, the WTAAA is determined to tackle the industry’s most pressing challenges. Its dual focus is on protecting consumer rights and ensuring the sustainability of the travel advisory profession.

Traveller Protections: Transparency and Empowerment

Central to WTAAA’s agenda is advocating for greater transparency in pricing, particularly as New Distribution Capability (NDC) technologies reshape the travel industry. By ensuring travellers have access to transparent, comparable pricing options, WTAAA seeks to empower consumers with informed decision-making capabilities.

“Travelers deserve clear, concise information and the ability to make informed choices,” said Otto De Vries, WTAAA’s Executive Director. “We are working to ensure that new technologies enhance, not hinder, the travel experience.”

Building on this vision, the WTAAA will launch its “Travel Right, Travel Smart” campaign in 2025. This initiative aims to educate travellers on navigating the complexities of modern travel with resources designed to safeguard consumer rights and facilitate robust dispute-resolution processes.

The alliance is also lobbying for standardized protections across borders, advocating for fair and enforceable regulations prioritising the traveller experience.

Empowering Travel Advisors: The Backbone of the Industry

The WTAAA recognizes that empowered travel advisors are crucial to delivering seamless, stress-free travel experiences for clients. To address the industry’s evolving demands, the organization has pledged to enhance advisor training programs, ensuring they can navigate new technologies and industry complexities.

Key initiatives include:

  • Advocating for fair, professional fees ensures advisors are compensated for their expertise.
  • Collaboration with airlines to create a level playing field for advisors due to technological shifts.
  • Focused training initiatives on emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and NDC.

“Our mission is to empower advisors to better serve travelers,” said De Vries. “Strong travel advisors mean confident, well-informed travelers.”

A New Leadership Team to Drive Change

Guiding this bold vision is WTAAA’s newly appointed Executive Committee, a diverse team of leaders representing significant regions across the globe. Wendy Paradis, Chair and President of the Association of Canadian Travel Agencies (ACTA), is at the helm. Supporting her are Paula Cortés (FOLATUR) and Dean Long (ATIA), Vice Chairs, and Eric Drésin (ECTAA) and Hamza Rahmat (MATTA), Secretary and Treasurer, respectively.

The alliance also introduced new committee leadership:

  • Mark Meader (ASTA) leads the Land & Sea Committee.
  • Christian Möller oversees the Air Matters Committee.

The WTAAA thanked outgoing Chair Andrew Bowman for his contributions and acknowledged his ongoing service to the organization.

A Commitment to Collaboration and Innovation

Looking ahead, the WTAAA has reaffirmed its dedication to bridging the gap between travellers and travel advisors by investing in initiatives that benefit both groups. With transparency, innovation, and collaboration at the heart of its mission, the organization aims to improve the future of global travel.
