The heart of Bangkok’s iconic Chao Phraya River will come alive this winter as Vijit Chao Phraya 2024 unveils a dazzling light and cultural festival that promises to captivate visitors from around the globe. Running nightly from 16 November to 15 December 2024, this immersive celebration will transform seven iconic landmarks across 14 riverfront locations into breathtaking showcases of light artistry, cultural performances, and cutting-edge technology.
Organized by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports in collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and key partners, this event will highlight Thailand’s rich cultural heritage while boosting tourism and local economies.
A Visionary Event with Ambitious Goals
According to Ms Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor Vijit Chao Phraya, 2024 aims to reinforce Thailand’s status as a global tourism leader. “This spectacular event underscores our commitment to becoming one of the world’s top five tourism revenue-generating destinations. By leveraging our cultural heritage through robust public-private partnerships, we anticipate generating at least 600 million Baht in revenue while encouraging extended stays and local spending,” she said.
The festival is also part of the larger Thailand Winter Festivals initiative, aiming to position Thailand as a premier winter tourism destination.
Festival Highlights: An Unmissable Experience
Visitors will be treated to free, nightly performances featuring awe-inspiring light and sound displays, projection mapping, and traditional Thai cultural performances. Highlights include:
- Rama VIII Bridge: Six daily shows blending light, sound, and laser artistry.
- Wat Arun: Iconic drone displays celebrating the temple’s cultural significance, with additional weekend performances.
- Memorial Bridge: Stunning illuminations, laser shows, and fireworks to captivate the audience.
- Sunanthalai Building: Immersive projection mapping reflecting Thai heritage and creativity.
- Abandoned Building at Soi Lhong 1919: A dramatic light and sound spectacle bringing new life to this historical site.
Each performance is designed to honour Thailand’s history while showcasing its forward-looking vision.
Cultural Unity Through Innovation
Vijit Chao Phraya 2024 emphasizes innovation and highlights the collaboration between the public and private sectors in creating an event of this magnitude. With performances from 18:00 to 22:00 hrs daily, the festival invites locals and tourists to explore Bangkok’s riverside magic.
