The San Francisco International Airport is ready for the holiday travel season with new facilities, destinations and services ready to make flying better than ever. The holiday travel season will begin in earnest on Friday, November 22, 2024, with approximately 160,000 forecasted passengers traveling through SFO. In total, 6.3 million travelers are expected at SFO between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, an estimated 15% increase over 2023 holiday travel levels.
Allow extra time getting to the Airport
Travelers are strongly encouraged to arrive at the airport at least 2 hours prior to departure for domestic flights and 3 hours prior to departure for international flights.
Parking garages expected to be full – book in advance
SFO expects parking garages to be at or near capacity during the holiday travel season. SFO recommends that travelers take public transit or share rides to the airport. For parking, the Airport recommends travelers book parking early using SFO’s online booking system, which allows users to choose their parking dates and times and enter payment information to complete a booking in advance. New remote baggage check-in from Long-Term Parking and Rental Car Center
Coming soon, SFO passengers can enjoy an even more seamless travel experience with remote baggage check-in available from both the Long-Term Parking garage and Rental Car Center. This complimentary service, provided by Bags, is available for domestic flights on select airlines and allows passengers to check in their luggage, receive boarding passes and proceed directly to the TSA checkpoint. Airline baggage fees still apply.
Connected terminals and walkways
With the completion of Harvey Milk Terminal 1, all terminals at SFO are now linked post-security, allowing for seamless connections between airlines. A new interim corridor is also open in Terminal 3, allowing passengers to make easy connections while the Terminal 3 West Modernization is underway.
New airlines and destinations for holiday 2024
Holiday travelers can enjoy a host of new airlines and destinations this season, including Air Premia to Seoul, Frontier Airlines to Palm Springs and Vail, United Airlines to Monterrey, Mexico, Belize and Costa Rica, which is also now served by Alaska Airlines.
Live music in the terminals for the holidays
SFO will once again be hosting a program of live music during the holiday season, featuring a variety of Bay Area artists. Visit flysfo.com for more details.
