Today, Carnival Luminosa sailed into Brisbane to spend her third summer season homeported at the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal. With a capacity of around 2,260 guests, Carnival Luminosa will take more than 70,000 FUN-seeking holiday makers on 24 voyages between November 2024 and April 2025, departing from Brisbane and setting sail to Far North Queensland, Vanuatu, New Caledonia and Papua New Guinea.
Further cementing Carnival Cruise Line’s ongoing commitment to Queensland, Carnival Luminosa’s return for a third season will be followed by an expansion to two Brisbane-based ships when P&O Cruises Australia’s Pacific Encounter is re-branded to Carnival Encounter in March 2025. The presence of the two ships, Carnival Encounter year-round and Carnival Luminosa seasonally, is expected to inject nearly $800m into the Queensland economy over the next twelve months. This is over double the $406m amount generated across the 23/24 financial year.
“The decision to keep Carnival Encounter based here in Brisbane year-round is an indication of how much Queenslanders love cruising from their capital city. As we expand our fleet, Carnival’s commitment to the Sunshine State has never been stronger,” says Carnival Cruise Line Vice President, Kara Glamore.
Highlighting the importance of regional QLD destinations to their itineraries, Carnival and P&O Cruises Australia ships are planned to visit Moreton Island 50 times in 2025, Airlie Beach 52 times, and Cairns 28 times in 2025, with an exciting itinerary program recently announced for guests to book as far ahead as 2026/27 on both Carnival Luminosa and Carnival Encounter.
Carnival Cruise Line’s exciting summer will culminate in the expansion to four ships in Australia in March 2025, when P&O Cruises Australia transitions into the Carnival family. Joining Carnival Luminosa, Carnival Splendor and Carnival Encounter will be P&O’s Pacific Adventure which will be re-branded as Carnival Adventure, operating year-round from Sydney visiting destinations such as Moreton Island, Airlie Beach and Cairns.
