Swarovski Manufacturing Thailand is to plant 120,000 trees at a degraded forest area in Phitsanulok, Thailand to support the cause of climate change mitigation.
The reforestation project which was unveiled at the National Reserved Forest Area in Phitsanulok on Tuesday October 8, 2024, will result in 600 rai (960k sqm) of wasteland and deserted areas being reforested by 2030.
The initiative will be carried out in collaboration with the Royal Forest Department of Thailand under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and will involve local communities, employees, and volunteers. By planting these trees, 1.2 kilotons of Co2 will be removed from the air annually.
Ivanka Janssen, Swarovski’s Chief Supply Chain Officer, commented: “I am proud of the continuous sustainability efforts of our teams in Swarovski Manufacturing Thailand, and their contribution to mitigating climate change. Swarovski has ambitious greenhouse gas reduction targets, set by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), that we must reach by 2030, and this reforestation project complements the many steps we are taking on this journey.”
Janssen added: “Seeing Swarovski leadership and employees joining forces with the Royal Forest Department of Thailand as well as volunteers, is a true testament that collaboration is key to creating the change we want to see.”
The project forms part of Swarovski Manufacturing Thailand’s sustainability program “Go Green”, which also includes the transition to renewable electricity via onsite photovoltaic installations as well as the purchase of renewable energy.
The project aligns with Swarovski’s sustainability mission to make conscious choices that create long-term value for people, the planet, and the business.
Swarovski’s global sustainability strategy focuses on three priorities: mitigating climate change; preserving resources and minimizing waste; and promoting fairness and celebrating individuality.
