Eswatini’s tourism has once again been basking in the glow of some great, positive international media exposure – this time courtesy of extensive coverage in the UK.
First came a feature in The Telegraph, probably the UK’s top newspaper for travel and ‘UK News Website of the Year’ for 2024. It was written by Mike Unwin, something of an expert on Eswatini having lived in the country some years ago, and author of the only dedicated guidebook to Eswatini, the Bradt Guide.
Labelling Eswatini as ‘Africa in a nutshell’, Mike explains “With prolific wildlife, spectacular scenery and a fascinating culture, Eswatini crams in an amazing variety of habitats and attractions”. The article shows that, because of its compact size, Eswatini offers the opportunity to squeeze in a ‘perfect African adventure’ even in a relatively short space of time.
With a culturally rich heritage offering ‘jaw-dropping spectacles’, plus ‘dazzling bio-diversity’ and its status as ‘one of the best places in Africa to see a rhino’, topped off by landscapes that ‘alone are worth the trip’ with ‘picturesque mountain-scapes on every horizon’, it’s easy to see why the article concludes that Eswatini is a ‘hidden gem’ waiting to be discovered.
After that ringing endorsement it came as no surprise that, when the Telegraph then rounded up its ‘Best Safari Holidays’, Eswatini again received an honourable mention in amongst the usual big hitters, with adventure operator Explore’s 10 Day Eswatini and South Africa tour included in the ‘Best Value’ category.
For even more extensive coverage of the Kingdom, Outlook Travel magazine included a full 14-page ‘Travel Guide’ on Eswatini in their latest edition. A country overview introduces the fact that “unspoiled landscapes, abundant wildlife, and rich cultural heritage combine to present Eswatini as an unmissable travel destination”.
There is then an in-depth interview with Vusi Norman Dlamini, the CEO of the Eswatini Tourism Authority, who gives some great insights into Eswatini’s tourism. Mr Dlamini explains that ‘Eswatini offers a genuine, authentic travel adventure and a chance to escape the crowds and experience Africa in its purest form’ with ‘sustainable tourism as a priority’. The interview is followed by a feature on the enticing Vuvulane Food Market, and some selected recommendations of places to stay and eat, plus top activities and places to visit.
